Was wondering how to master the Orion, since I will be buying the Orion Protector and be Receiving also the Champion Orion for buying $50USD MC because of Sweet Deals for MC.
Which Variant should I buy for the third one?
How should I play the Orion Champion, since I already have an idea for the Protector?
Should I sell the Champion after I master it?
I need to know because when I play, I like to build my mechs with a plan and then go out into a match within 3 minutes.
All speculations and comments are appreciated.

I built mine like mini-Atlases - AC20 in the side (or LBAX or UAC) with laser support.
STD300s in them all (with some exceptions but I do not remember the builds)
Only real thing I dropped was the missiles on most of them, since I would have mounted an LRM for supporting my teammates as I close in (a problem the Atlas has, being slow) but the Orion moves fast enough that it was rarely a problem.
SRM I considered - but with the heavy ballistics there simply was not room (similar issue to the LRM)

Since MWO change contantly, you can't know, that you won't need this Mech some days in the future again.. So, if you think, you will surely have some free money, for some new Mechbays in the future .. I would say, sell no Mechs ...
For the 3th Orion, my vote goes to the ON1-V.. Least, if you perhaps like to play too, with second line LRM-Boats.. After some nice volley, of A+LRM45... you will smile..

I would keep the champion mech. It has decent hard points and nets you extra XP in the event you love it and want to transfer over the XP to GXP.
For the last orion if you want a missile Orion go with the VA. It has 4 missile hard points that it can make use of.

My favorite is the Orion-VA with the Inferno Express comissar build, with:
1x Ac/20
4x Srm/6 or Srm/4
2x Medium laser
And you can alpha strike a few times before shutdown.
It is quite scary to find one turning a corner.

I mastered the orions (or rather, finished elites) and i really wanted to like them more than I did. I like the hardpoints on the mech, but the arms are just so low that I constantly shot at walls and ground when I thought I had a clear shot. Guess I'm too used to the Jagermech, or the speed of mediums or lights that can peak over and around things and dodge back. The Orion can't do that, so don't even try. It's too slow.
You pretty much need to go with a standard engine for durability. You will not live long with an XL. However, as Shar said, you should aim for a 300 rated engine. Even that feels slow to me to be honest. Unfortunately, this also reduces your weapons payload space so you have to stick with only one big gun or a couple larger weapons. Think of this mech as a brawler. You've got the standard engine and the arm lasers/missiles for aiming easier. You will lose an arm or torso.

Put out this ML, IMO is to hot for good brawl, you only need
1x Ac/20
4x Srm/6

If you plan on getting the champion and the hero...
Why not just go into MWO's in-game store and snag the Mastery pack? It gives you 50% off the champion and the hero, some other knickknacks and gives you the mechbays with them, with a price that's right on the ball or slightly cheaper than getting the champion and hero together without the mastery pack.
Up to you if you want to sell the champion. I personally own all but one Orion and I plan to own them all. (Technically I don't own the champion version either, but I'm not into buying the champion mechs myself. It's expensive enough collecting heroes).

It isn't good to get mastery pack because of sweet mc deals, I get a Orion champion for free, and it feels like a waste of money because I don't need the cockpit items or premium time for that long. But you've proven a point. Noted

If you love the LRM, the VA is the winner hands down. In this configuration, it is my most lethal mech and what I got my 2 eight kill matches in. This one shows why its dangerous when in a cooperative team.
If you want to brawl, try the K. You can make a "poor man's marauder" out of it. It also makes a great wub machine with solid light lrm backup.
