Here's the sad part.

I've already played 78 or so matches, for 25 points, most of them wildly frustrating, and now, even though it's easier going, and my success rate since making the mech switch is vastly improved, it may be too little too late.

I'm feeling pretty damn burned out on this game all of a sudden. Like literally, the only reason I'm continuing to play it right now, is the compulsion to participate in the Challenge. The fun is gone. And even if it weren't, I'm pretty sure my wife isn't going to put up with me playing too much more of it this weekend. Definitely not enough to earn any of the significant prizes really anyway.

I find myself hoping they extend this Challenge one more weekend, to take some of the pressure off, and then don't have another one of these terrible things for at least 3 months...

Hopefully I'll feel like playing again by then. ;)

What's doubly sad about that, is, even if I'd earned a point for every one of those matches, I'd still be 2 points or so short of the top prize.

Please. No more grinding. I just can't take it anymore. :P

I'm a bit sad you sold the KFX and SMN.

If you wanted to run LRMs, both can run them just fine - SMN can run 5 LRM5s, for instance ... and for some challenges I like the KFX with 2 C-ERML and one LRM (+ECM).

The challenges are somewhat frustrating for folks at times; sorry about that.

I'm with ya, I wish they did these events for 2 weekends. They are just to much for a casual player and honestly, that is what these events help most. A hard core player if gonna make tons of money anyway.

But these days with these kinda events, i take the premium time, and have fun, if i get the prize so be it.. Then i buy a module or an engine and be happy.. :)

That's me this weekend. I'm enjoying the premium time to grind myself some mechs and C-bills. Got the first modules as well. who knows, I might get the second batch as well (the 3rd would be very unlikely), though if I don't I won't shed a tear.

I do have a little bit of Sellers Remorse, truth be told, but I honestly do not know how else I could have improved my ability to farm this Challenge.

The truth is, I was actually enjoying both mechs, outside of the Challenge, but I was also running every build I could find on the forums, and taking every suggestion I could drum up, with very little success. I must have put 6 million C-bills or more into just trying out Summoner builds alone over the course of the past couple of days, and that represents all the C-bills I'd been able to drum up.

Fortunately this is an alt account. On my main, which is fully funded with premium time, and a great selection of tricked out IS mechs, I am pretty sure I could have finished this Challenge no problem, but other than the color being awarded, I already have all of the items being offered on that account, so it felt like a lot of work for just a color, a mechbay, and a few C-bills.

Thus, I opted to attempt it on my F2P Clanner, who could gain much more benefit from the prizes. I think it was honestly a very revealing experience for me, in that it showed me what new players, or players who only can afford Free accounts are probably up against in Challenges like this. Frustration the likes of which I have NEVER felt while playing my main account.

With my main account, farming kills is no problem with mechs that are fully unlocked and outfitted with modules, custom loadouts, consumables, etc. On the free account, where the only mech I had unlocked fully was the Kit Foxes (I only sold them so that I could afford the Mad Dog, and I know I'm going to miss them), and the one Summoner that had merely Basics unlocked, no modules to speak of when I started (I did buy the Clan LRM5 Cooldown module, and am working on a Target Decay module to go with it), and so on, I got a taste of what many other players must feel like during these things, and I feel nothing but sympathy.

On my Kit Fox Prime, I run ECM, twin CERPPCs, and a bunch of heat sinks. It's my go-to Mech for the Challenge Weekends and fights very well. This isn't my best vid of it, but it's the only one that I have uploaded from my hard drive:

On my other Kit Foxes, I run one that has tinw CMPLs and a CLPL with twin CMGs. The second has three Streak 6s and a NARC Beacon.

For my Summoners, I run my Prime with a single Gauss and a single CERPPC. It works pretty well, but you have to really guard those arms. On another Summoner, I run twin CLBX 5s, twin CERSMLs, and twin CERMLs. The final Summoner has three CSRM 4s and two CSRM 6s. It's a nice brawler.

So yeah, that one Mad Dog Prime, that I sold all my mechs to enable myself to purchase, and that I was finally starting to do well in the Challenge with (at 42 points currently)...to the point that I was actually starting to believe that I'd maybe even win that Adder at least?

Is now stuck in a match that glitched out on Caustic Valley. Been stuck there for maybe 20 minutes now.

So. Awesome.

If you want something that can easily net you a kill and good damage every match, throw on 5xCSSRM6 (or4s) and a bunch of ammo. Stick with the assaults and gobble up any light that comes near. Use JJs to set up shots over terrain and hide quickly. Target Decay is a good module for this build.
Good luck, mechwarrior.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...7a523dd886664ba SRM6 LBX20 shotgun build, not suggesting it for CW (short range and not enough ammo) but in public matches it works great.

for kit fox i really haven't even looked at them enough.

for the summoner though the obvious ones are meta summoner prime using that cd for guass and ppc. and streak or lrm 5's summoner unfortunately that would probably end in a all ammo configuration but it could be rather reliable.

but the one that honestly annoys me the most is 2 uac 5's and 4 med lasers, hits hard enough, has energy for backup with great sustained damage, and in my opinion fits its role quite well as a support fire build.
the other off kilter one is 4 er large laser's, or if you want a quicker alpha 2 er large 2 large pulse. the only real drawback is that that one is all in the arms, and of course a little less sustained dps for that higher alpha.

It wasn't one of my go-to mechs for the challenge, but my kit fox with 3 ERML and 1 LBX5 in the torso did get a point in the one game I played with it.

(I mostly used a Rainbow Laser Twolf, a 4LL Stalker, a Huggin, my MPL Raven 3L, a Jenner-F, and a Catapult C1)

Well, as I was getting tired of the "Matt Damon" joke in my original Jade Falcon name, and between my disappointment in the iconic Jade Falcon mechs, my love of my new Mad Dog, and the fact that my other two unit members preferred Ghost Bear to Jade Falcon in the first place...

I have been, as you can see..."Re-invented"...

Feels much better. ;)

Thanks for all your feedback and help everyone. With the Mad Dog, a bit of determination, and lots of lost sleep, I did actually manage to win the c-bills and mechbay ( :P ), though I fell short on the Color, Medallion, and Camo. Ah well. Next time.

Cheers!

Brawl, brawl, and brawl.
Be annoying as hell and constantly move, twist, and juke.
