Although I have enjoyed and read and played Battletech since the late '80's, I am by no means a BT canon/storyline expert.

The few maps and timelines I could google up seemed to show that the MWO invasion has conquered as much territory in 6 months as the 'canon' invasion did in its entire run.

I don't know if this will have any effect on the MWO timeline of following the BT story timeline re: mech and tech available, possible events etc

If anyone has a decent link or info source for showing the Clan's progress in the original storyline I would be interested.

The CW Time Lapse thread has a good view of how it has progressed in-game:

The Clans have conquered more territory in 3 months, than the entirety of the lore clan invasion (considering we have conquered PAST Tukkayyid). At the same time, Marik in CW is much bigger than lore Free Worlds League.

This is not an RPG game. Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeext thread.

Edit: It wont have any effect on the timeline of the game unless PGI decides to go against their 1 year in our time is 1 year in BT timeline as far as us being currently in 3052

Yeah, there is no correlation between BT history and MW:O. Completely different animals. The only thing they share is Faction names.

What's that got to do with the OP's question? We all know you hate the idea of Battletech in a Battletech game by now, you've been banging that drum for a while, but it's largely irrelevant to what the OP actually asked.

I am glad we do not have to wait a week for a jump drive to recharge. Really speeds up progress

Then again, the way fronts move so fast it feels more like a game of Chinese Checkers than a game of interstellar conquest.

Too bad it is not directed by Michael Bay then our mechs could go critical with MASSIVE SPLOSIONS!

None of it matters anyway, when CW is more fleshed out the map will be reset.

But we would be dressed like marines and at last one mech per drop would have to wave the US flag. And we would probably not drop from Leopards but Ospreys.

If it was directed by Michael Bay, then Liao would be the good guys. :)

As for the timeline, considering we have no travel time, we're actually moving slower.

Though in the lore, a battle didnt take place on every planet. Most planets are smaller colonies without much military presence or reason to fight over it. If those worlds are behind your lines, theyre yours. Drop a star of elementals to go shoot the Comstar guards with their needle guns hanging out around the HPGs, you own it.

And without a starport, its pretty hard to get mechs back off a planet in the lore, so theres no reason to hot drop them someplace where it takes a huge amount of effort and drop ships to get them back off the planet. Those dropships are in limited supply and need to be with the forward elements and running supplies and troops on and off worlds that are disputed.

So you got a situation where you can go 30 light years in less than a 24 hour period here, even having to take multiple planets. Whereas there, there was weeks of sitting around a star waiting for your jump drives to recharge so you could hop on to the next battle.

Logistics would have done that, which is somewhere down the road, maybe.

Someday it would be nice to have actual "units" on the map, and then the premades and solos fill up those units, then those units go do their thing based on an actual player commanders choice, not just PGI or its algorithm. With the ability to "cut off" units from supply, and thus destroy them (to be respawn at your capital and moved by player commanders)

Those units could be broken up into various types of things you can do, like scouting missions (4 on 4 lights only, successful ones would be needed to open up each "zone" for conquest) plantetary assaults (what we have now) counter attacks (a better mode) and raids (lower the number of missions available or some logistics cache or supplies, increase someones attack timer, or even lower their tonnage available).

Thats the CW everyone wants. And has wanted, since the 90s.

Heroes and Generals, and Battleground Europe both do that part of the strategic element very well, and MPBT was supposed to but, "reasons" happened.

Hey look at Liao. Pretty much carving up the south one by one and has pretty much taken over the St. Ives Compact and beyond. Even Sarna is under Liao control now. Like the Clans, MWO+CW Liao has well surpassed its canonical counterpart.

More like just over 3 months, MWO/CW Clans have conquered more territory and beyond.

In contrast to canon,

The Ghost Bears, the Smoke Jaguars and the Jade Falcons appear the stronger of the Clans over the Clan Wolf, at least in conquering planets.

Liao and Marik has also expanded their territories beyond the 3052 measure.
