If they're the same weight and basic design wouldn't it just be a variant instead of a whole new chassis design?

I wonder if this be one of the four variants or will it be its own mech? or something like a super variant as one of the four? I notice the Grand Dragon has a similar but notably different look than regular dragon in the literature/sarma.

Grand Dragon

Posted Image
Mass 60 tons

The Grand Dragon is the successful follow-up to the Dragon BattleMech. The 'Mech is built to engage an enemy at long range with a low ammunition dependence. The 'Mech is capable of reaching ground speeds of up to 97.2 km/h. It is also equipped with double heat sinks to dissipate the large amounts of heat produced by its impressive weapons array and is armored with ten tons of armor and CASE to increase MechWarrior survivability in case of an ammunition explosion.
Armament

The Grand Dragon carries a Lord's Light 2 ER PPC as its primary weapon. The ER PPC is backed up by a Telos DecaCluster LRM-10, which gives the 'Mech an impressive and formidable long-range striking capability. If a 'Mech gets into close ranges, the 'Mech carries three Victory 23R Medium Lasers

If you place an XL into a Mech it can carry more weapons. Which means the Grand Dragon is putting more damage onto a target.

A much better iteration of the Dragon, and a 'mech worthy of the appellation.

I really would like to see the Enforcer and Valkyrie in the game. Battles between DCMS and AFFS forces with Dragons, Jenners, Panthers, Enforcers, Commandoes, and Valkyries would be just breathtaking.

Cool... ^_^ this DRG-5K Grand Dragon: fast, well amored and havy weapons.
I like the Grand Dragon.

Wasn't the Grand Dragon introduced in 3024 and the Dragon phased out in 3040? This is what the sarna wiki says which I thought was based on the Battletech source material. Either way, I never really liked the original look of these 2 mechs but Piranha has done a nice job with the redesign.

Another fine weapon from Luthien AW, perfectly suited for the Combine's samurai. I am still somewhat sceptical as to the High Command's decision to place a greater emphasis on heavier battlemechs, but I have to admit that this model looks impressive. It will be inspiring seeing it perform in the field.

Nice speed, double sinks, PPC...
all it needs now is a retrofit XL engine and it'll be my ride of choice ^_^
btw... If the dragon was a founders option, I would pick it in a second, love that mech from way back in MW2

+1, any day over a CAT.

i was really hoping at the last moment it would be stalker, dragon ,firestarter and cent

Let's keep it clean and not make reference to any real life groups. Yes, you know who you are.

cool maybe this means that double heat sinks are going to be in the game by launch!

EDIT: so this will be added to the game right we just dont know when? and if it is does that mean that the quad mech refereance in a different post will also be added at one point?
