For the record, I hate RPS in a game like this, which is why I want Streaks reworked into something that is consistently effective rather than being crutches against some targets and crap against others. I'm only using the anti-assault weapons thing as a counterexample to try to make people see the point of why having Streaks be anti-light is stupid.

In that case I don't even think we have an argument here, since the need to rework streaks seems to be the consensus. Of course, I don't think streaks are OP by any definition of the term, but whatever.

It's basically hitscan at that distance. Point and click.

Except you can't:

Okay then...I got confuzzled while seeing that Dino was posting anti-RPS and then you were replying back and forth with him. Made it look like you were opposite sides.

Using the Daishi as the example is disingenuous because that specific mech has the lowest agility in the game (which is the price it pays for having the most firepower in the game). All other assaults (well, at least when the user doesn't use a tiny engine) fare much better than that.

I'm also not sure how this shifted from the Gauss to agility anyways... If a light is in your firing arc, getting a 2000 m/s projectile on him should be fairly easy.

IS Streaks can't be as good as Clan unless you can boat them, and boating them means you either one shot lights or scratching heavies and assaults' tummies.
I think the real problem is there is no real counter play (ECM is a counter, without play), having the missiles have a maximum turn angle would make them much more realistic and would give faster mechs the abillity to dodge (some of) the missiles if the pilot knows when and where to turn. Then increasing the travel speed would also be viable and make more sense.
If a no-skill-needed weapon is needed in this game, at least have some form of counterplay..

Well... PGI can make IS Streaks go after LT/CT/RT only... that will even the odds!

Try it on a light running around you at 150 kmph at a 50-meter distance. Then tell me how it works out for you.

At 50m it isn't really a hard shot for competent pilots...

Honestly, I feel like streaks are fine where they are now. They are good at dealing with lights not so good at dealing with bigger mechs. I don't see why every weapon system needs to be equally effective against every mech. LRMs are pretty terrible against light mechs but are great against assaults in the open. SRMs are garbage against everything though :(.

I only wish IS had similar streaking ability as SSRM2s are laughably bad.

Inner Sphere side the most Streaks you can carry is 6 (Catapult A1). That's 12 missiles, 24 damage, spread out over 7 hit locations. You can't reasonably expect to do more than 4 damage to any one location that way. That kind of firepower can take as much as 3 salvos just to crack open the armor on a Locust.

Clan side the most you can carry is 6 launchers (a Mad Dog using both of the A side torsos). That's 36 missiles, 72 damage, spread out over as many as 7 hit locations. Generally around 10-12 damage per location. That will strip most of the armor off of a Locust, but isn't likely to one-shot it unless you hit him from the back.

Massed Streaks just plain can not one-shot light mechs with anything that even vaguely resembles reliability.

For Streaks, you only need to keep your reticule over a very large general area on the mech. If you point at the arm, head, or leg, or whatever else, there is no difference when you're using SSRMs. You just need to be able to keep at least one random pixel of their body in your crosshair.

Yeeaaahhh....That's the point.
SSRM / LRMs -> You keep your aim on the mech somewhere and you do guaranteed damage everywhere.
Everything else (mostly)-> You keep your aim somewhere and do damage there.

Do you want to be able to shoot off specific components? Take a laser or ballistic....all damage goes to one spot, but if you screw up you don't do damage.

Do you just want to sand blast the mech with damage? Take an SSRM....you do full damage, but you don't get to pick where it goes.

It's called a trade off / choice / option / preference / playstyle / risk vs reward.

You know, that thing everyone claims they want MWO to have more of.
