I know this game is about mechs, so dont start flaming me, but will there be the option later on to add tanks, VTOL, aerospace assets etc? sometimes these vehicles can do things mechs cant, and can require different tactics to deal with. I think it would add a nice mix up for later on in the game.

Been discussed a bunch of times and the answer, from the dev's mouths, is no. This is a 'Mech game not a mixed combat game.

So.. no BA's, no tanks, no hovercraft, no LAMs, no aerospace.. nothing except mechs..

And for the record, I am not flaming.. just stating facts.

For this title specifically, light487 is correct. However, I know that if MWO is successful, the dev team will be chomping at the bit to get another MechWarrior title under their belts, which could incorporate those aspects of the BattleTech Universe. Patience is a virtue.

Well, in the FAQ it states that they will not add vehicles "at the moment" so maybe down the line (long) after release we might get them.

Seems like a bad idea to me. The balancing alone would be a nightmare. Tanks and other land vehicles benefit from having a small targeting profile but they lack the mobility of a mech. They might manage to find a hide and land a few shots but it would be at the mech's mercy the moment it gave away its position. Aircraft suffer a similar handicap, they might be fast but they're poorly armored for a protracted battle against a mech.

Although I would mind the opportunity of taking a Yellow Jacket gunship up against a light or medium mech. What better way to play hide and seek than a swift little helicopter armed with a gauss cannon.

There has been a few mentions that there is the possability of adding various things, like an aerospace airstrike, or something along those lines, something that you call in to support you, there is already an artilary strike that can be called in, or so i have been able to get from what the devs have said, so the other units are/will be in the game, just not as something you drive personally.

There's something you should look into. It's a little mod called Mechwarrior:Living Legends. Please google it.Download it,install it(assuming you have crysis wars). Then, spend a few days there getting trolled by aero/vtols floating carelessly 1000+ meters above your head knowing there's nothing you can do to effectively defend your expensive, freshly bought shiny mech. Then come back here and let me know how much you want aero/vtol in this game.

Actually, hang on,lemme catch my breath for a second.I have to appologize.I've been bashing MW:LL a lot lately. And while some of it is deserved in my opinion,I have to give the game it's due. What the devs over there have done with only a small mod team is,quite frankly, amazing.MW:LL is a very fun and VERY well put together battletech combined arms mod.You have a dazzling array of units to choose from including aero/vtol,battle armor, tanks, hovers, mechs and so on.And the list continues to grow.I wish them the best and hope MW:LL continues to grow and becomes a resounding success.I truly do.

That being said, the game's fun factor is being dragged down by the devs adamant refusal to balance the aero/vtol assets against the ground based assets. All of the ground based assets play WONDERFULLY against each other. The tanks, the mechs, the battle armor..they all are fun to play and fight well against and alongside one another. The air assets are an entirely different story. The air assets are playing their own game,by their own rules Thanks to various factors the AA put forth to deal with air assets is woefully inadequate, and for the most part useless and not fun to drive,or play in.You get in an AA vehicle because you HAVE too,not because it's fun or engaging game play.Even then you can't really hope to do more than plink away at aero's long enough to annoy the pilot into returning to his base to reload so he can come back to one shot you.

wow,got off on a rant there.sorry.anyways,back to the point.Go try out MW:LL for your combined arms battletech fix,see if you like it.

*the above is purely my opinion, your mileage may vary*

I say you never know what could come if a game is around long enough, I bet Blizzard never thought they would be introducing Pandarian Brewmasters into WoW when it first launched.

The game is already balanced out of the box, TT, what we make of it is another story. If everyones aim sucks the story may be different.

I'm thinking if you see it at all, it will be as NPCs for specific map features, or summonable units such as airstrikes for commanders.
