My First Gaming Mouse: Need Tips For Mwo

In fact, it has a bewildering number of buttons and options. I think I don't know where to start.
On my old style mouse, I used the mouse wheel (click) for weapon group 3, mouse wheel up for max zoom, and mouse wheel down for minimum zoom.
I now have so many buttons I have no clue how to set them up.
Also, there is a nice Logitech utility program, but again, I have no clue where to start.
Any tips from you gaming mouse veterans on a good setup?
Cheers in advance!~

If you can comfortably use the two extra pointer finger buttons for weapon groups, I would probably do so. If they're really annoying to use (like on my mouse), I personally use them to set 100% throttle, cuz I'm lazy and like moving without holding a button down, and power up/power down (for dodging missiles and sneak attacks). Other options could be toggle override or target lock or center legs or something.
The lower thumb button on the side with the little crosshair on it is something that can be set up with an option to lower your DPI (mouse sensitivity) and is used primarily in shooters. You keep your sensitivity high so that you can look around and get your reticle in the enemies general location easily and quickly and then hold the button while shooting to make it easier to hit specific parts you're aiming for (heads in most shooters, specific components in MWO).
The two side buttons I would use for consumables if you're using the top buttons for weapon groups. You could also use them for weapon groups, but if you make use of the DPI toggle, it will be tough to use both it and a weapon group at the same time, so I would stick to LRM weapon groups cuz you won't need the DPI toggle for LRMs.

That leaves 5 buttons blank.
Everything else I changed to be able to do with my left hand without moving it from the 'WASD' position.
Ya have to set up the Logitech software first in order for MWO to recognize some of the extra buttons on your mouse.

I could never get used to the sniper button, it just felt an odd placement.

It took awhile to get settings low enough to use the mouse with MWO, even with the sniper button on minimum DPI, but with a bit of tweaking I found it all to work out rather nicely.

Also, can't figure out how to use buttons G7 and G8 to fire weapon groups 5 and 6, even though they are set up to do so.

Personally, I also found the Logitech small, and my previous experience with Logitech mice was that they couldn't stand up to my (admittedly excessive) abuse. I ended up getting a R.A.T. 7. They get high marks on every review you can find about them. It's well constructed, many parts are made of metal. It also has various interchangeable side pieces and adjustments to form it to fit the shape of your hand. It even has a set of weights to install to tune it to the appropriate feel as you slide it around. The mouse is super-accurate, super-fast (slow it down for MWO), and the software makes it infinitely customizable/tunable.
As for key mapping, left mouse is group 1, right is group 2, thumb button 1 is group 3, thumb button 2 is group 4. I don't use group 5 or 6 generally. I found in heated battle, it was hard to figure out what you were desperately trying fire off when you were choosing from 6 groups. There is a Precision Aiming button on mine, below the thumb buttons, I remapped that (via included software) to F, so I can use it to center legs to torso as I walk around. The click wheel goes max zoom with a click, or in and out incrementally with a scroll up or down. I also have a side scroll that I use to set the throttle level. If I had two more buttons, I would map them to consumable slots. Good thing MadCatz just released a new R.A.T.!
Good luck out there, enjoy your new mouse!

I've got the mouse working great, but for this one last thing. I have a GShift button on the left side of the mouse, which I would like to map to DPI shift. I have a high and low DPI setting created for snipe shooting. However, the mouse software will let me make every other button BUT this button into the DPI shift button.
The funny thing is, some pre-made profiles have this set as the DPI shift button, and they don't work either.
I can remap Gshift to DPI shift, but it doesn't work in profile testing or in game. Anyone know the trick to remapping this specific button?
