Did a quick tabulation on what's happened between day 90 and now (day 106) as I did notice a trend. Not going to make any derivations but just post the numbers.

Clans are down 20 planets to the IS over this period after dominating early.

Feel free to speculate on why it's so.

It obviously is a little surprising considering all the overwhelming sentiment that clans are OP.

no numbers are op. southern houses finished their sparring match and are now dropping on the clan front in greater numbers. the worst part is that the sparring taught the southern houses how to effectively fight against the clans.

So, what your saying Geist is that all the "learn to play" or "git gud" comments in response to the "clans are OP" where in fact accurate and clan mechs are not OP, very interesting. Hopefully this will reduce the whining on this issue but I doubt it.

Lot of Clan players got bored and quit. Ghost Bear very low population right now. Jaguar lose a couple of units to boredom. Jade Falcon never high population. Clan Wolf just bad at video game.

So you are implying that its actually the players that make a difference and no overnatural opness of factions? BLASPHEMY!

Simple. CW planet count has never been a valid measurement of balance. However, that works both ways. Losing 20 planets in 16 days doesn't mean IS is OP or that things are balanced.

Liking your own post? Come on, man.

In all honesty, though, I've found that matches against Clan Wolf usually garner us the highest amount of wins compared to any other Clan. Cite whatever reasons you want.

As I do not usually see him do that, I assume it is because the person he quoted always does it.

My speculation is that either the clans ran out of money to hire the mercs to ghost drop planets for them, or the mercs decided they wanted to earn the rewards in IS factions for a while.

I guess I could just do the troll-y thing, hunt through all topics where the opposite was happening, and it was nothing but a solid wall of "teamwork op" "l2p" "Clans just have better players and teams and you guys suck" and so on, and then respond in kind.

In reality? The mercs came back to the IS, specifically Steiner. As I've been saying since January, Steiner knocked CJF almost back to the periphery near the start of the year, then the mercs left, people got disenchanted, numbers cratered, organization cratered, and CJF was able to blow through us.

Now we have the mercs back and can do more than just stall the invasion: we have the numbers to go on the offensive. It also helps that Marik isn't ghost dropping our worlds away on the southern border (as much) so what few players head that way can focus on the Clan front instead.

The problem isn't that you don't know how to play (certainly NOT), and it isn't that you need to learn to play, somehow forgot how to play as a team, or that Inner Sphere mechs are overpowered:

The problem is POPULATION.

Specifically, the problem is an unstable merc population that migrates from faction to faction making them the "superpower of the week" before moving on to the next. Wait a week - all these mercs will probably head over to CJF and you guys will be able to happily stomp your way towards Terra, once again secure in the knowledge that it's all due to your incredible skill and the IS players' utter lack of comparable skill and teamwork, and nothing to do with the population numbers...

Constantly broken attack lanes for the clanners have bored people away from the clanners/CW. I mean CW without war is a bit, well pointless.

IS has gotten superquirked mechs. Many Clanplayers returned to play with the shiny quirks that give you quite an easy time.

Hold up a second lets break the numbers down.

Day 90 Clans - Day 106 Clans
  • Clan Jade Falcon: 89 - 68
  • Clan Smoke Jaguar: 76 - 78
  • Clan Wolf: 63 - 65
  • Clan Ghost Bear: 49 - 47
So no, this is not a story of Clans imploding in on itself. It's a story of Clan Jade Falcon falling to pieces. Every other Clan faction is pretty stable.

That is one interpretation. Another would be that the Clan players no longer enjoy a truly ridiculous tech advantage which is their natural right for their perceived superior player skill, long time association with the game, or having bellies with stars.

Neither interpretation is accurate. Dawnstealer has the right of it: fluid population, particularly the migration patterns of the large mercenary units has the most impact on the exchange of dots on the map.
