Assign whatever gender you want to your inanimate object. To the U.S. ships are female. To the Russians ships are male. People think their cars are male or female. It really doesn't matter. If you want to think of your mech as a woman or a man, knock yourself out. It's just a walking nuke reactor.

Well for me, my Mech would have the gender of whatever the central AI voice was. seems if I remember the startup checklist the voice is female. I wonder if they would let you customize the the voice. if you wanted a male voice you could get K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider or maybe the Cylons... "By your Command".... ^_^

Correct me if I'm wrong but Mechs are not sentient like transformers, right? The computer can't pilot the Mech on it's own... I can understand why you don't want an A.I. piloting Gant Machines of Death on their own. But yeah I'd guess if you were to tag a gender to your Mech it would be to whatever voiceprint you had installed.

any time I hear someone mention gender on robots I kind of chuckle. I mean its worse than calling a boat "she" but if I remember correctly I hear from a computer science professor that a computer is generally referred to as female while a robot is male. Don't ask me why this is I have no idea. As for the design of the mechs in "female" proportions or even "male" proportions is kind of dumb. You build it to suit a need. By chance a males shoulders are wider and more in line with the hips. As such a mech with proportions similar due to the need for lower weight support and a wide weapons platform would give a masculine image. Remember as a human we see things that are based on humans and try to attach something we commonly see as a reference. Thus the reason we see faces in the dark due to lighting and what not.

On another note, I think shrinking the waist and adding a "bust" would be kind of weird. Though I due think the legs will need to be wide and heavy to support the weight. assuming we are talking physically possible.

I probably missed something but o well. Its a rough explanation.

Mechs that look as they should (heavily armored war machines) may look masculine simply because they're bulky. Making a mech look like a curvy fembot isn't very combat functional.

I absolutely love how the game designers are doing mechs in this game. Hedging out that old absurd anime robot artwork from mechwarrior is a drum I've been beating since as long as I've played the game.

This thread has served it's rather unusual purpose. It's not very applicable to the discussions in General Discussions. Locking it down.
