Is anyone else suffering a frame rate drop since the last patch ... I thought the idea of the patch was to improve playability . . . I currently have frame rates of ~ 20 in game and only of 32 fps in the mechbay . . . I used to get frame rates of about 60-90 but they are dropping bit by bit . . .
Yes I have latest drivers etc ... have run fixer app and reinstalled . . . ?
Any thoughts ?
A couple of patches ago I was getting lower framerates, laggy game play, terrible rubber banding at times. Since it was right after a patch I thought something in MWO had changed and even posted a thread in the patch feedback forum.
However, in my case, it turned out that some time before the patch I had installed a new western digital hard drive (2Tb for backup purposes) which also installed some western digital tools for backup and monitoring. These were having a very negative impact on framerates and lag ... I am not sure what the software was doing ... part of the problem might have been real time backups though there was still an issue when I uninstalled the backup application. However, when I removed the rest of the western digital applications my framerates went back to where I expected them to be.
Anyway, the comment may not apply to you ... but you might want to take a look and see what other processes that could be running that might be getting slower over time and impacting MWO game play. For example, if you have something that indexes files in real time ... as you get more files ... this would take more time to run and maybe run more frequently ... possibly causing degraded performance in MWO ... but unrelated to MWO. I know that the Internet cache for example, depending on your OS version can grow quite large. If your hard drive is getting low on space you could be running into swap file thrashing issues that get worse as the drive gets more full. This can even happen if you have so much memory than WIndows should never have to use the swap space.
There are a lot of system and software interaction issues that could cause declining frame rates in MWO that are completely unrelated to MWO, drivers and other obvious issues. From my understanding, PGI has been working at improving frame rates apparently with some success .. so although you are likely seeing worse frame rates ... the reason might likely not be related to MWO.
