Why Are My Mechs Invalid And What Do I Do About It?

Hi All
just getting back into the game after a long abscence and most of my mechs are invalid, I've stripped them and no joy, what can I do about it?

Did you strip modules ( consumables would be my guess ) the modules system got reworked a while ago then patched to enforce those who had already installed multiple strikes to remove them.

Yep... Strip Modules and I bet you will be able to get your mech working again.

used the strip mech feature, checked all checkable boxes and hit ok. some mechs that are invalid say "you have already stripped this mech" when I try to strip them again, some don't, all that were invalid are still invalid.
OK, I figured it out, once I strip them they become invalid.

well they would be invalid now because they have no engines, lol.

When you click on the mech on the right side of the screen near the details and below the 3D model it should have a warning with an exclamation mark. Mouse over that and it will tell you what is wrong.

If you stripped them, that could be why they're invalid. No engine or weapons. Click that red triangle and it will tell you what's wrong.
If it's Clan mechs, either Timby or Kit Fox, it could also be excessive JJs attached due to a mechanic change. Remove the pods then replace them.

so why not put NO ENGINE instead of invalid? wouldn't that make sense?
I was really hoping PGI had fixed their crappy clunky GUI, hell, even microsoft could do a better job, and that's about the worst insult I can think of.

Well invalid is "vague" and should prompt you to check out the issues in that red exclamation point in the mechlab for the details.
It can be as simple as "no engine" to "having no weapons" or even the "not having 10 Heatsinks" requirement.
Better or more useful warning signs would be nice for filtering purposes, but that is Lostech.
