Sexy.

A lot will depend on current unknowns, primarily, it's hitboxes and agility. If it turns out to be related to the Gargoyle, then even with JJs, it won't probably do what I want. But if it has a decent Movement Archetype, Agility and Hitboxes?

LOOK OUT.

I don't normally care for laservomit, but if the mech it tough and mobile, I'll deal, especially for my CW deck.

Should be pretty easy to toss in 4 JJ, 300XL, Near Max Armor, 15 DHS and 3x LPL, 2x Mlaser + SRM4 and 2x AMS.

Or some ER PPCs, and a bunch of MPL and some SRMs.

The 5H has dual energy in each ST, so it's possible it could have a highmount, like the Enforcer, in which case, you have the seed for a decent mobile jump sniper for CW.

Or a Maxi -Engine 7 MPL jump brawler. Boring, but...vicious.

I realize some will disagree, but I am so glad we are getting the Hopper instead of the Black Knight.

Already have my tentative ZEU-6S build mapped, too. 325XL, 14 DHS, aLRM15x1 (RA) w/3 tons ammo, AC5x2 (LA) with 6 tons ammo, MLasersx4 (LTx3, CTx1), Near MAx armor (possibly .5 tons short)

I'm with ya, been waiting for a good agile heavy. Hopefully the GHR will deliver!

Even though it's very substandard, the Summoner is my favorite Mech. So I'm hoping to see similar movement (though slower), here.

I've always had a love hate relationship with the Grasshopper, but it will definately be a laser vomit champion, it will have more hardpoints and a slimmer profile than the Cataphract, its closest competitor.

It's looks aren't as good as I was hoping, guess we'll see how it performs.

I was hoping it would be a little less wide, but I still think it will be a great mech. Also, in terms of aesthetics I think it looks amazing as it has a lethal appearance.

I've been theory building this guy for a long time... I'm beyond excited to put my theories into action.

My personal take is to use the higher engine cap. It can take an XL365, allowing you to go very fast in this nasty 70 tonner.

If you want to zombie however, I'd still take the faster engine. A STD340 can fit with nealy full armor, 6xMPL and 2xJJ.

For these builds, I try to use equivalent tonnage and crit space weapons, while leaving needed spaces open, like the center torso.

GHR-5J w/ STD340 and 6xMPL - 86.6kph, 36 damage alpha, with plenty of DHS (+7) and mobility to keep up. And zombie mode! This should be a down and dirty brawler. Sub in a slower engine if you want more JJ.

GHR-5J w/ XL365 and 2xLPL, 4xML - 42 damage alpha, with even more DHS (+9)... and it will go 93.6kph! It replicates my favorite BJ-1X build, but in a tougher, more heat efficient mech. To get the proper tonnage, add 4 tons for the difference between the XL340 and XL365, subtract 1 ton from the large laser to equal 4xML, and add an additional heatsink to the larger XL365 with (4) extra heatsink capacity.

Bonus Round!

GHR-5J w/XL340 and 2xLPL, 4xMPL - If you want to get Real Nasty!™ 46 damage, short duration alpha with plenty of DHS. (+7) It's back down to 86.6kph, but should still put a hurtin' on anything dumb enough to ignore it. The Quickdraw 5K can build something similar, but with much less armor and 1 less DHS.

There are so many energy builds possible in this mech...

I could also see 2xLL, 6xML be a solid build too. Now that LL, ERLL and LPL had their ghost heat raised to 3 weapons, the Grasshopper's stock has sharply raised.

I like the look. It's sleek. Has a relatively thin profile for a heavy, which is a welcome change from pancake Cataphracts and Thunderbricks. Nice shoulderpads, good arm coverage . . .unless its CT is huge, I have a hard time imagining how it will be hamstrung by hitboxes.

Exactly my thoughts. 3x LPL, 2x MPL WubHopper could be mean.

Will depend somewhat on quirks, too. Obviously not expecting any Pulse Laser quirks, but if the energy ones are solid, that will do.

You know there will be at least one variant with generic energy heat reduction and cooldown quirks, if nothing else. The stock loadouts guarantee it. I'd be happy with 10%.

Looking at it doesn't give me a heavy mech vibe i thought it was a medium at first. I can't wait to see how it performs and the Zeus as well they all look sexy. by all meant the Resistance mechs even Potato football helmet Enforcer.

I'm pretty much goin with mostly clan mechs for flavor ,but always loved the grasshopper and if it can move like it should and fight like a heavy still ,I'll probably still run it.

Zombiehopper. Both torsi blown, still got 2 MLs/MPLs + SRM4, and jumping around. :D

Only thing saddens me is that the Heavy queue is always higher than the rest...

You'll be able to play it in July.

I think with the factors (quirks, Hoverjets™, PPCs) have reduced the role/purpose of the Cataphract to virtually nothing (well, maybe the Ilya, but the Jagermech seems to be better at that...).. I guess I can welcome the 70-ton replacement with open arms.

There isn't enough energy that can contain me. I can't have my mechs use that head missile slot outside of the Shadowhawk....

The shoulder joints that directly connect to the upper arms and the side torsos are a tad larger than they appear in the concept art. The STs themselves are also just a smidgen too wide.

Its not awful or egregious. Just enough for me to notice. :(

I don't think it will hamper performance though.

Looking at the screenshot, you can already see where the torso energy mounts are. They are low. About navel-high.
