After Logging In, Game Closes

EDIT #2: There was another patch today (not sure what it did), but it did not solve this issue. Still closing immediately upon logging in 100% of the time. Also, the 'steam trick' as suggested generously in the below comments did not solve the issue for me, but I hope others are able to play. (sent email to technical support)

EDIT: This happens in both the 64 bit and 32 bit clients.

I didn't see this in the known issues, so here's the issue:

As of the latest patch, when I click to log in the game will flicker to full screen and then immediately close and arrive back at the desktop. No error messages, no running processes, it just closes. This happens 100% of the time.

64 bit client, 670 GTX 2GB, Quad Core 3.8ghz, Windows 7

This has been happening to me for some time. Maybe for three or four patches. Only way to get the game to run is to start it from Steam. Doesn't make any sense but it works. 64-bit version doesn't start even using Steam.

Having the same issue with the last two patches.. It did it a couple times with the previous patch, but would start more often then not. This time I am 100% DOA every time. After the login screen it flickers then its back to the desktop. I ran the repair tool as well as it said that it fixed some items but I a still having problems. I suppose I will try a complete uninstall and try again..

+1 happening to me too now. I guess I'll try the steam workaround. Game closes right after the login.

Same here, two days in a row now...My only two nights off work this week and I can't even get in the game.

I did a total uninstall and redownload and installed the game fresh. Still Crashing on me just like before.

Updating all windows drivers and vid card drivers now... Ugghhhh :(

Updated windows and my vidcard drivers. Surprisingly I was able to log in WHILE I was updating. However my keyboard locked up on me in my second match. Restarted my computer and now I'm right back to where I started and cant get on. :(

Thanks very much for the steam suggestion, but it's not working for me. I just sent an email to their technical support, and if it has really been that many patches since you've been unable to login correctly please send them an email as well. More voices will get this looked at sooner.

Day 3 same results. Tried the Steam work-around, same results. It feels like what happens when I try to run Star Citizen. My vid cards won't run DX11, so I get kicked out of that game. Also, my settings are to run MWO in full screen, might that have anything to do with it? But, you can't change that outside of the game.

I'm not sure if settings matter at all. I'm running DX11 full windows but Dx9, fullscreen or windowed and any combination of those works fine but only through Steam.

@Beefmaster Edit attributes.xml file that is found in your profile folder (C:\Users\[WindowsUserName]\Saved Games\MechWarrior Online\Profiles\[ProfileName]). Change line
<Attr name="OptionCfg.ViewMode" value="2"/>
value to 1 for full window, 2 for fullscreen and remove whole line for windowed.

Never ever had issues.
But with the last patch 50% of matches, during conection to a match game exits to desktop, without any warning.

i have tried every thing that the tech support has said thec config thing fixer many time uninstall reinstall (with DSL a painful process) same thing login 4-5 seconds bang back to desktop

Been seeing more disconnects since the patch; though only in CW (so far) as soon as the teams drop. Then will get 2-3 instant client/game close on reconnect attempts upon entering pw/enter. Then can usually get in. Have had a handful of 'disconnect from server' and, when attempting to get back into CW match after clearing the previous hurdles; have a message pop saying my mechs are locked and in game with no way to rejoin. <_<

Ran repair tool; that found 3 corrupted files; fixed...no change with the disconnect issue. Checked settings, none reset so using same settings as prior; mostly medium.


(Edit) Seems to affect around one out of 5 CW matches I've been in, over the last couple days; so far.

A solution for this is currently in-testing and may roll out in a hot-fix (time and date to be announced).

In the meantime I have posted a comprehensive summary of this issue, with some potential workarounds, here.

UPDATE: I had trouble updating Geforce Experience because of .NET Framework was some how messed up. I run repair option on .NET Framework and reinstalled Geforce Experience and now MWO works fine without Steam. This applies to both 32- and 64-bit clients.

So you may want to mess around with those if you are having problems.
