Just for future reference--if you want to see some nice ammo explosions, shoot the arms.

Left leg, CT and Head! You can also store 2 tons in each ST.

TBH, all the good stuff happens when people shoot the sides of the pinata.

hmm, I always shoot the sides of that fat beast...

there's nearly as much armor on the arm as on the ST, so beside damage farming there's no point.

And just in CASE, ammo explosion don't help with killing a clan mech, and the actual explosion is rather meh, should be way more spectacle.

Aside from the fireworks and amputating the arms, does it do anything meaningful? On TT, Clan mech (Omnis and normals) come automatically with CASE everywhere, so an AmmoEx just drop the arm out, but won't transfer the damage.

Considering the fact the torsi section are most targetted, I would be surprised if the Whales stored ammo there. :D

Whenever I play the whale, I always find people trying to leg me because I can't twist away their CERML damage there. Huh.

1. Ammo explosions are such a rarity that they're almost never a concern.
2. Clan mechs all have free super CASE in every component so it's even less viable to hope for ammo explosions doing anything.

So no, I think I will continue shooting the side torso which blows off the attached arm anyways.

The chance for ammo explosions is hilariously small, and all clan mechs get free case. Not that it matters because the ammo won't explode anyway.

I usually shoot a torso, because they're hard to miss.

Yup.

99% of the time, shooting arms is bad play, period. The only exception is very easily removed arms on lighter mechs that house the majority (or all) of that mech's firepower. And even then? The weapon side torso is a better target.

Ammo explosions only happen 10% of the time a bin is destroyed.

It's overall kind of unlikely to destroy a bin before destroying the section it's in (which WILL destroy the bin, but as clan mechs have CASE everywhere, that's irrelevant. Li Song's Mechlab shows the actual likelihood of a bin being destroyed before the second, and it's not that high when there's anything else in the section.

Losing an arm doesn't bring you any closer to death. Losing a side torso brings you closer to death, AND takes the arm with it.

Shooting arms is dumb, unless you have no other shots to take and heat/ammo to spare

I like to shoot the gun arm on yen lo wangs, just for the lolz, and because you can get more firing angles on the gun than their right torso sometimes.

I also like storing ammo in the head. Nothing like piloting a battlemech while sitting on top of 1 ton of explosive rounds.
