Just a straightforward question--I'm running an i7 930 @ 3.2 ghz (was 3.6, but it got unstable and I haven't played with it enough to get it back). I noticed that xeon x5650 are about $75 bucks on ebay used. Is there enough of a performance jump to the xeon to bother switching up CPU's? Does MWO care if there are 6 proper single cores available, or just about my o/c speed?

I was trying to hold off on a whole system build until the i7 58xx series and DDR4 prices come down to earth.

The Xeon is slow, so no.

MWO likes CPU cycles, more so than number of cores.

Money would be better saved and then spent on a newer Haswell-based mobo+cpu.

MWO would like the cores, but it's not like I can max out the stuff that loads a CPU, despite my 4.27GHz overclock …

I would wait for the next generation Intel CPU's to come out. I currently have a I7-950 oc'd to 3.51ghz with a EVGA GTX770 and can play this game great at 1080p on max settings. Give your oc another attempt and safe your money for the next CPU's to come out.
