Why don't they make clan auto cannons fire a single shot like IS and have the Ultras fire in burst mode? I would use clan AC if it did that. Right now there is no point in using them.

Balance decision because of the ability of some Clan mechs like the dire to boat the every loving crap out of auto cannons.

So no.

Because having the firepower of 2 AC/20 with less weight than a single AC/20 would be obnoxious.

Clan UACs could absolutely use improving, but not this drastic.

Pretty much what he said. Plus Clan ACs weigh less, take up less crit space, and do the same damage per trigger pull. So if they also fired as a single shell on top of that, they would just be straight up better in every way.

Have you seen what 4 AC5s can do on a King Crab? Or the Jagermech? Or the Dragon and Wolverine with 2 that fire like 4. The Dire Wolf can take 6. And its not like it's hurting with the current mechanic.

Can you poptart with 3 jump jets on a TBR-S or the DWF-S? Dunno. But we'd find out. Although I doubt anyone would take 20 or 40 pinpoint over the alternatives.

Remember that ACs are a placeholder for if they find a way to implement switchable ammo on the LBXs.

1 shot for AC2, and Ac5, 2 shots for AC10 and 3 shots for AC20..that would be better.

Guys, he's talking about the regular C-ACs, not the C-UACs. He wants the Clan standard autocannons to fire in single-shot mode, while the C-UACs still fire in burst mode, so that he can have an option for Clan autocannons that aren't generally awful.

Unfortunately, the answer kinda remains the same - because then the Dire Whale would then stick seventeen Clan standard autocannons on its various bits and use them to bypass the Gauss charge cycle and group fire limitations so they can Lolspike things all day erry day.

Correction, not ALL Clan autocannons take up LESS crit space!

IS* AC/2 6 tons 1 crit
Clan AC/2 5 tons 3 crit

Go to the MECHLAB now if you dont believe me . . .

Because the Clan AC/2 is a placeholder for switching ammo for the clan lbx, it has the same crits and tonnage as the Clan LBX AC 2 until they figure it out. Which if you look at the IS lbx AC 2, you'd see that is weighs 6 tons and takes 4 crits. So that is what you have to go by since the Clans don't use standard autocannons.

Although, I am a bit perplexed as to why they haven't figured out the whole switching ammo types yet...I'm not great at programming, but I think I can do this in java if you give me a month.

But anyways, while the UACs and the placeholder ACs for the Clans need a buff to make them more appealling, even if you do it for just the normal ACs, I don't think this would be a good idea.

In lore, you could load a solid slug into a LBX cannon. Different ammo, same gun, maybe lower performance?

Oh god, those will be so damn bad.........UACs already jam every 2nd shot, RACs would jam on every shot.

THen to boot, would prolly be spread RAC2: 10 shots for 2 dmg
RAC5: 15 shots for 5
RAC10: 21 shots for 10 and RAC20: 35 for 20 dmg......just because balance....

Sure I suppose, but it would be nice to see something like this:

C-UAC/20
4.00 Damage
1.40 Heat
0.80 Cooldown
5.00 DPS
1.75 HPS
950 Velocity
35 rounds per ton

LBX solid slug rounds, lots of bullet drop / steep drop in trajectory.
