I'm pretty sure by now most people are aware of how cripplingly expensive it is to deck out even a small lance or star worth of your favourite mechs with their most suitable modules. At three million c-bills a pop, buying a suite of the modules for a mech in some cases will cost more than the base mech, all the good IS upgrades (DHS+Endo structure/ferro armor) and a customized weapon loadout combined.

Considering how time consuming it is to grind the GXP to get a single 5/5 unlocked version available for purchase let alone the following 3m price per unit, is it possible to have some sort of alternative to flat purchasing? Honestly, even the ability to hire a temporary 24 hour/7 day version would be lovely. Failing that, perhaps some kind of 1 for 1 exchange where you can trade in an existing purchased module to get a module of the same class in return (trading a weapon range module for another unlocked weapon range module, for example).

I don't "mind" the modules being expensive, but some alternate way to get at them would be beneficial to the game, especially a temp hiring version to give people a taste of what they offer, especially if it turns out what they bought for 3m c-bills wasn't what worked best compared to an alternative module.

Seems like there already is an alternative way of getting these without a grind. Free to play doesn't mean "zero revenue". PGI have families to feed.

Yeah, I know how this goes. I swap around the modules I have bought so far myself.

I had been thinking that since this is supposed to be a sink for GXP and C-Bills that the devs should keep the current price for the first modules bought for each unique module. Then have following Modules available at a discount C-Bill price.

For example, you unlock the module you want, and pay for your first module at its high cost at say 4,000,000 C-Bills. Then you can have the rest of the same module be available at 400,000 each afterwards.

Doing this sort of discount (and the amount can be tweaked) for all modules then allows this to remain a sink, but then allow players that have over 10+ mechs able to afford to have more multiples of the various modules and even consider using modules that they would otherwise not have tried with the current high costs.

Not sure I buy the "supposed to be a sink" bit. It's "supposed" to be a revenue source, like everything in the game. Even the "free" bits are driving revenue by increasing the player base and making the game more fun for the marks who spend money.

The people who would benefit from the proposed policy are people who, while real-cash-poor, are already playing a ton and want to have duplicates of various modules. I don't see that catering to that demographic does PGI any good. If they are going to give away more free stuff, they should do it for newbies to expand the player base.
