Gauss ammo doesn't explode. Anyway, just run 6 UAC5s (3 per mouse button) and call it a day.

But the gun itself does so people use it synonymously.

Yeah, I guess that's true. Anyway, gauss is about the best ballistic option for clan mechs, because all the other ballistics suck. The only time the 6 UAC5 build works is if your teammates are good, or the enemy team sucks. Too much face time.

The 6xUAC5 Dire Wolf is effective at suppressing enemy snipers while your team moves up, it has that going for it, but generally I don't like to rely on non-gauss clan ballistics for the core of my damage output.

The Hexenbeast works fine until you have no ammo left and are dead in the water. Unless it has lasers or a butt-ton of ammo I won't use it.

I find if I run dry and am still alive, I've had a pretty good match.

True, but I hate being a stick.

Far as i know, the 2 big viable meta builds are

Dual Gauss + lazor

5-6UAC5 + lazor.

I prefer gauss due to the bigger alpha/less facetime and those UAC jam on me like they dont like me or something.

Dire Wolf Quirks: +30% UAC jam chance for players named InspectorG.

Just a tip- the 4En/Ballistic Prime arms on the DWF have a 7.5% recharge penalty on energy weapons, and the A right and B left have a 5% penalty. If you're only mounting four energy weapons to the arms anyways, mix up your arms to shed some disadvantageous quirks.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...db14c3c6f7d0e0d would be easily doable, for instance, leaving you with only one arm explosive and only one shoulder Gauss-carrying. Maybe shuffle the ammo a bit to get the explosive UAC ammo out of the non-Gauss shoulder, but Gauss ammo pads the rifles nicely, providing 'dead' crits to help avert explosions.

As an additional note regarding Gauss 'ammo' explosions, Gauss rifles exploding are affected by CASE (which is free to all Clan 'mechs in all locations/components) just like typical ammo explosions.

I get why you would want to put both Gauss on one side of the machine but I don't like doing that. The chances of a side torso going boom and taking both your gauss with it are too high. I would rather lose one gauss and either 4 Mlas or 4MPL than both my gauss.

Comes down to playstyle and preference.

I prefer to keep the big alpha as long as possible so i load them on the same side. I mainly run lights so keeping near cover is more habitual to me.
When you are used to expecting a dual Gauss one shot death, hiding your mech's side is fairly easy until you get full brawl. Even in a brawl, i can turn to give the deadside.

In which case, http://mwo.smurfy-ne...00e5a1dd99e2789 or http://mwo.smurfy-ne...00e5a1dd99e2789 or even http://mwo.smurfy-ne...ad257a989c7337c are all viable alternatives. As are any number of other modifications, but don't iron-lock yourself into splitting the lasers between the arms evenly unless you're sure that's much more important than not taking that total 15% hit to recharge rate.
