I rekindled my love of Mechwarrior in last through infrequent visits to the Airlock in the Seattle. It's a small out of the way place, but it combines the fun of mech-fragging with the old school feel of going to the arcade to while away the time, I love it so.

I loved Virtual World Dallas. I only did the mars racing game thing once, I ALWAYS play battletech. I remember a few guys playing the BT board game in one of the corners at Virtual World. I **** near cried when it closed.

My player name was "IlKhan" lol.

I used to play at Navy Pier, Chicago. Went by Princip & Phobius. Then one day they were gone. It was disappointing. Some absolutely awesome memories of playing that. We would save up our money just to get a few games in.

For those of you who competed, how in the world did you afford it?

My local DnB franchise had them. I played them a couple times. I remember it was expensive for a round. Still it was cool and glad i had a chance to do it.

I have the privilege to get to be within easy driving distance of Mechcorps in Houston, and I have to say It's always worth it to get in the pods. The friends I've made there are awesome, and I'm quite thankful that I can go and get my fix for Battletech so easily.

SLAYER checking in. Started in Walnut Creek, Tech in Sacramento and Atlanta (briefly), opened the Seattle WotC Game Center, and former owner of the old Costa Mesa 3.0 pods. God I miss those days.

edit: apparently saying the G-word referring to a higher power gets censored
edit edit: apparently its been fixed, I can say god all I want now.

I did cry when it closed. Literally. I was the regional manager there. I had just spent a month living in Dallas running the store after the general manager left and we had pulled sales up a good fifteen percent in that month. The site was on the way back, the staff was enjoying working there and it showed in how well they took care of the customers. Then the day after I made a job offer for the GM position to the assistant GM of the Indianapolis site my boss called and told me we were closing the site in two days.

On Halloween I had to give the entire staff the news and let them all go. The next time I saw my boss I told her I didn't want to do this job anymore.

The only closing that hit me harder was the BattleTech Center itself.

My pod story:
First and only time I ever played the pods at Dave and Buster's, I was 15 - there was no one else to play, so the pod operator played me. Then I beat him, and he made me play again for free. I guess being beaten by a 15yo girl = embarassing. :|

That was Rochelle P, right? I dont' remember her "real" callsign (I don't think she ever translocated a single mission honestly) but we alll called her "Ice Queen." Prophet and I recently re-connected and he let me know that shes running some tech company now. Maybe we all should apply?

I hope it wasn't me! Do you remember the Tech's name by chance? (Feeling all nostalgic now)

Love the Seattle area. The Airlock still gives us the privilege of using these blessedly amazing devices. PRAISE THE OMNISSIAH!

Actually, there are more cockpits operating in North America than ever. It is just that many of them are in private hands and you dont hear about them.

Extinct?

Not even close!

Chances are you will see MORE of them in the future.

That it was. Actually, I found her to be an excellent boss. I went in and told her I didn't like my job anymore and she helped me get a position as a level designer on MechCommander. In a very real sense she is responsible for my current career. She had a very strong sense of loyalty and was incredibly quick on the uptake. Good things to have in a manager.
