I realize many want the Models re-scaled, etc. (So do I).

Maybe someday. But my constant pestering (sorry Russ, I just love my Battletech) brought to Russ's attention that the Hopper was given a HUGE archetype for movement. And While the Gargoyle was argued over, agreed that was unacceptable.

So now he got the Engineer Gnomes to look at separate coding boxes (my tech poor description, not theirs) for collisions and terrain movement. Good news is it appears to be an easy fix, and should hopefully be in by Wednesday.

Sorry I can't report a magically shrinking Grasshopper, but at least after Wednesday at least King Crabs and Stalkers shouldn't be able to outrun it up hills.

Second bit of silver lining....

btw, freely and happily admit I was wrong on the second torso hardpoints. Those will be a lifesaver.

Yeah they should be able to just make a 'Large 1' and 'Large 2' profile, where Large 2 acts like Huge, but is the size of large, and the same for Huge.

Glad to see they nailed that issue in less than an hour. Though itll take a day or two to work it up and make sure it doesnt break anything.

Well done.

Makes you wonder what else can be shored up that easily if someone just thought to ask the right question.

My guess is something like this:

If I had to guess, my money is that they'll split up the movement archetype into TWO different categories instead of just one: the collision capsule and the climbing ability. Right now they're both lumped into one characteristic.

So the Basshopper, for example, might get a Huge Capsule but Large hill climbing ability. ...Assuming I'm not horribly wrong.

One has to wonder why there is the extra code to link the movement archetype to the physical size of the model - they could be completely independent and allow for much simpler changes.

Also if the GH is "Huge" - how are the King Crab, Stalker, and Cataphract all not? By volume the GH is smaller than them.

Oh yeah its one of a few solutions. Im interested to see which one they go with. The one that allows a nice copy of a template to new movement profiles in the future will be their best bet id imagne. Someday you might want a plethora of movement profiles.

It's based on height primarily.

The KC and Stalker are Large, while the Cataphract is Medium.

Which youd think theyd want more than 4 anyways now that they have so many mechs.

Though its easy to tell your map mapmakers, ok small is xxx units high, medium is xxx, large is xxx, etc, and they can look in their grid overlay in the mapping suite, and see ok, I cant make anything shorter than this, or nothing wll fit through here.

There's actually 5 types, you missed Tiny.

Maybe they should make a Micro climbing profile exclusively for the Gargles. Let it climb any slope in the game up to 90 degrees vertical. Spidergargles.

Yes I would throw all my money at this idea.

a fine question, but at least we are getting a partial answer.

From that chain of twitter it appears height plays an issue. Tall 'mechs were getting Huge unilaterally while shorter 'mechs (King Crab) get large.

Thanks for pressing this issue and reporting it to us Bishop. I guess I'll wait until the HotFix is out before I give SparkyXL a try.

that was my read and fear. Hence my risking poking the bear and bugging Russ about it. Probably used all my lifelines and get out of jail free cards for the next month, lol.

Well good thing they are fixing it--Grasshopper has no business being Huge either.

Sounds like it's the collision mesh for the Mech that defines the boundary for the model.

It's an invisible collision barrier around the mech AFAIK. It's shaped similar to a...capsule.

Your mech is basically living inside of a giant invisible pill.

which would explain the jostling and bumping at times by mechs you are not physically touching...visibly.

And might also explain why some mechs seem more prone to stick on crap, than others?
