The bullet speed is only aesthetic. The actual damage is dealt as hitscan.

Wait... I thought you had to lead targets. You're telling me it's effectively an instant hit, as long as it's in range?

People say this nerf was documented but I checked every patch note since I bought my Arrow July 25th 2014 and it is nowhere to be found.

It's essentially the same thing as a tag except with a random chance to cause damage

Machine guns are so awesome that I took all 4 of them off my Huggin so I could bring more SRM ammo. Much better use of tonnage.

Despite obviously not being stellar, I've had some reasonable success with them on my Huginn and Anansi. I greatly prefer them to something legitimately useless like IS small lasers or flamers.

IS Small Laser is more useful than MGs, mate. No cone of fire, less face time, more DPS, and longer range.

It was documented somewhere at the time. Hot-Fixes and some other things often fail to get mentioned in the patch notes or recorded properly. For instant the income rewards 2.0 initially offered really low rewards for wins/losses and were fixed in a hotfix- except for the the tie result (which is now less than loss). You won't find this information anyway.

I'd trade 4 machine guns for 4 small lasers in my huginn any day.

Try it.

Drop with an MG-equipped 'mech on the Training Ground of your choice.
Position yourself say, 200 m from a target.
Fire your MGs.
Notice
1. How the paperdoll instantly lights up - Hitscan.
2. How the paperdoll takes damage all over - Cone of Fire.

The MG was overnerfed in what might be the most bizarre event in the truly bizarre history of MWO balancing; it was pre-emptively nerfed to compensate for an upcoming hit registration fix!

It needs to be un-nerfed, rebuffed, fixed, call it what you will, but the drop in DPS and crit rate was unwarranted.

MGs aren't that good at the moment, but I predict we'll see a lot more of them after the patch today, when the Summoners get their 4% extra MG range. That's almost 5 meters, for christ's sake.

I just hope PGI doesn't take those quirks too far, so they accidentally make the Summoner OP. Who knows what can happen if they give it another 2% next patch?

They'll core an Atlas from behind in 5 seconds from almost the other side of the map! It can't be allowed to happen!

I saw a match lost yesterday because a Huginn took machine guns and ran out of ammo for both weapons when it was the last mech left. If he'd taken the extra four tons of SRM ammo instead he'd have easily won instead of dying while trying to ram someone who couldn't aim and took minutes to finish him.

MG are funny and I love their sound. Pre-damage reduction they used to do a bit of damage to open mechs by the sheer amount of crit damage. Now they are quite useless. Perhaps with MG arrays they could work a bit better.

I use them whenever possible on for fun builds.. I love that sound too much
Usually I remove them after one match but still.. I wish I could love them.

I run my Timber Wolf almost stock (2ERLL, 3MPL, 2MG, 2LRM15). In one match I came across an Enforcer that was open in all across the front (RT,CT,LT). I SHOULD have been able to kill him easily, since I dropped his internals to cherry red in the opening shots. My heat level rose, and to avoid shutting down I stuck to the MGs and Large Lasers. Well what do you know, by the time I kill him (with the lasers mind you) he had opened up my left torso and CT.

MGs do damage, but the facetime required to do anything with them makes the clan Large Lasers speedy by comparison.
