the problem is, how much does an AC weight? how much weight is this on your mech?

does this ratio somehow reflect visually?

I know size does not actually scale with weight, because of density and hollow areas, but some of these ac's are puny.

Artists don't work on Hitreg man.

Coders fix Hitreg.

but coders do hitboxes, and artists make mechs, mechs have hitboxes, illuminati, caramell candy and rainbow vomit.

The issue is that it looks hideously stupid on a big giant stompy robot to have teeny-tiny guns when they are supposed to be big long barreled cannons in long cooling jackets, surrounded by a thick armored shroud to protect them from weapons fire and impact from slamming them into opposing mechs.

And I think you have your ideas of what size AC's are in milimeters a bit wrong, 20-25mm is what MACHINEGUNS fire.

I refer you to: http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Autocannon

Yes, some ac2's may be 30mm guns, but they'd operate more like the gimped Ultras the clans get rather than the big slug it spits out ingame

AC2s are essentially bofors 40mm. (Yes there are a few varieties, but in general). MGs are basically M61 20mm Vulcans, etc.

If modern analogues really have much to do with future stompy space robots, lol.

That Firebrand I posted on the first page? Dual AC/5s, 16 tons total, or 24.6% of the 'mech's weight. Without ammo.

The two lego-lasers above? Dual LLs, 10 tons total, or 15.4% of the 'mech's weight.

Each arm is 8+5=13 tons, or 20% of the 'mech's weight. Both arms together are 26 tons, which is exactly 40% of the 'mech's weight.

And they look like little toy guns.

For shame, PGI.

For shame.

There is a huge outcry on the forums every time they release a new "dynamic hardpoint" abomination, yet they just seem to continue down this path. I really don't think they pay too much attention (if any) to these posts, so a massive reddit and tweet campaign may be the only way to get their attention...

Sadly this seems to be true. Maybe Bishop's magical powers of persuasion could get them to reconsider. Help us Bishop Steiner, you're our only hope!

I'm normally fairly supportive of PGI and can just roll with the punches but this one was just too much. Yeah it's just cosmetic but com'mon, it's really bad. I remember when they released the Zeus pics, I thought man something aint right with that ac5 and now I know why...

Look to your right, outside the black content div. What's that in the lower corner, firing away with it's long, large autocannon arms?

I dunno.

The narrow exposed barrels don't bother me.

They actually look like Autocannons now.

Y'all do realize that these Mechs are out of scale waaay too tall, right? Check out the multitudes of multistory buildings in the game some time. Our Mechs aren't 30 feet tall like they're supposed to be, they're apparently closer to 50 feet tall. Either that or all of the buildings in the game are kids' forts "n0 4dultz aLl0w3d!".

So those tiny little AC/5s that you're complaining about are probably about a foot in diameter? To scale, those are huge freakin' guns.

It's the MWO world that's too small.

Check out this pic (from this FANTASTIC thread) where an in-game Atlas is placed between a CryEngine standard house and a CryEngine standard 2m human:

Yep, they are. They have rather thick, armoured cowlings so they can be used in melee combat, which unlike in MWO is quite common in the BT Universe.

Hmm looks about right kinda size. Considering the look like under 1/2 the height of the cockpit window that puts them well within realm of "makes sense" to me.

So I'll vote "no" to oversized Wile E Coyote ACME cannons.

PGI - The Centurion arm remake was one thing but the completely gimped AC5 arms on the Jagermech and the super tiny AC2' are completely unacceptable. We need to figure out a better solution. I don't even want to play some of my mechs because they look so terrible now.

Bigger auto cannons = bigger hit boxes, there's already enough crying over balance so lets not screw with it.

I created a poll in the suggestions thread. Let's see if we can't get the community centralized in one topic.

Hopefully we can get enough votes in the poll to at least get PGI's attention.

Don't be afraid, vote! Speak up, voice your opinion!

Do you want Mech scaling and weapons fixed? Vote here!

Once you put an AC on a locust, all ACs have to be scaled to the locust, you can unring that bell.
(or apparently make a locust look ridiculous for trying to mount an Autocannon).

In a nod to Russ and PGI looking at these concerns I've changed my title to be a little less harsh. Thanks guys!
