Playing yesterday I could have sworn I dispatched a hellbringer via headshot. He was shut down at point blank range from an alpha that deflected off my torso. I layed the trigger down on my own alpha grouping, 4 LPL came to life and splat he was dead.

My question follows: is there a notification that you achieved a headshot? I looked but my scrolling rewards at the bottom said no such thing. I'd really like to know this so I can be aware of whether or not I'm actually targeting the cockpit or not.

P.S. The best part of my day is when I can headshot a shutdown clanner.

Thank you.

Nope, headshots count just as any other component destruction, there is no notification other than what you see for yourself in the HTAL paperdoll.

Just counts as a kill, with Cbill rewards same as any other killshot afaik.

Only way to keep track of it is by yourself, and watching the #'s on your achievement tab in the main menu.

Thanks Mister. Thats bull...should be some sort of "hey you got one of the hardest kills I'm the game!". Even if it's just "Cockpit kill" I'd be happy.

It will usually say "Component Destroyed" when you get a headshot, which it wouldn't if you cored the person. I think it still says that if you ST an XL though.

You ALWAYS get a "Component Destroyed" message on a kill.

There is an achievement for getting your first headshot. Beyond that, the game doesn't care.

Not quite, there's a title for 10,000 headshots I think, maybe 1,000..either way, it's not a title you will get any time soon. We've had some issues with headshots in the past, like shooting a Catapult in the back and getting a cockpit kill, so they really tightened up the cockpit hitboxes. You can get them, but they did make it rather difficult on anything other than a shut down Mech.

I get them more often when using my King Crab with dual 20s currently, although I got a sweet one on a Mist Lynx with my Nova using ERSLs, 10 of them is enough to get a cockpit kill, just swung my reticule as far as over as possible as it was running past me, fired and boom, headshot. PURE luck but it was still sweet.

Sorry its just me being...an unimpressed jerk.

Nice! I got a really lucky one in my Firebrand over the weekend. Was flanked and trying to outrun the entire enemy force on caustic. Turned around and snapped both gausses toward the center of a timberwolf chasing. Unlucky guy got smacked by both rounds in the glass at 700m.

Yeah, no I don't need to be pampered. Thanks for that comment.

It just seems odd to me that every other FPS gives a nice "headshot!" across the screen when you get one. This game doesn't.

I dread the day they turn up the "instant gratification factor".
The younger the audience the more *plink* *bling* *ka-ching* noises a game seems to contain.

Hyper99, this isn't Unreal Tourney, there's no 'Boom! Headshot!' tossed out by the system for a cockpit kill or any other notification by the system that you did it. You WILL get people who call you a hacker, cheater, or cheap, because there's no way to get a headshot to some people(you know the type, if they fall out of a dropship, it's PURE luck they hit the ground) and some people only consider tearing the ENTIRE MECH apart as a 'good kill' because everyone knows it takes far more skill to hit the entire Mech as opposed to just the cockpit :)

I've been accused of hacking after getting 4 cockpit shots in a row with my Dire using dual gauss and dual erppcs. I pointed out that if I was blind and only had 1 arm, I could have gotten those 4 shots since the fools were standing still aiming LRMs at me from 300m away while a KitFox with ECM stood next to me keeping them from getting locks. Seriously, they just stood there pointing LRM racks at me, didn't even dumbfire them. Felt like a turkey shoot..but me and the Kit pilot were on TS laughing so hard that I don't know HOW I hit any of them, much less got cockpit shots.

Had no idea this was going to become a flame fest, ha.

Again, my intention is to actually KNOW for sure 100% that I've gotten a headshot. Therefore, I can try to remember EXACTLY where to aim next time. Thus, making myself a more efficient killer. After all, killing is what this games about. In no way do I need YOUR AMAZING flashed across the screen. Just some way that I can tell the difference between a regular kill and a headshot.

Assault LRM boaters deserve no better fate. ;)

Something to confirm it would be nice.

As long as its not an announcement like Unreal Tournament or Quake.. "HEADSHOT!"

If you're unsure of where the cockpit is, the Training Grounds are a good place to work it out (at least for some of the older 'mechs).

No stress, just walk up to a 'mech and probe it with lasers until only the paperdoll's head flashes.

There really should be a single TG instance with each and every mech for hitbox exploration. The fact that some are there and some take private lobbies is nuts. Like not having CW maps in TG...

Not true. You get Headhunter with 10 head shots...and Guillotine with 100. Got headhunter, but still working on my Guillotine title.

Line of 3 Catapults and a Stalker, all loaded with LRMs and that was IT..nothing else, it was just too funny, they didn't even MOVE after I popped the first cockpit.

I only got a headshot once and that was by accident when i just panicked when an enemy atlas came up in front of me (his face was already stripped of armor, maybe he didn't even put any armor there) but a AC10 + 2xML popped his eye (I was in my Centurion).
