Medium Pulse Laser Ghost Heat?

I've been playing around with the clan medium pulse lasers in the battleground and the numbers just don't seem to be adding up... whats up? Did clan mpm's get ghost heat added? Even firing them in groups of three it seems like they are still exceeding what I'd expect...

I guess what I'm trying to say is DEAR GOD WHY ISN'T THERE A GHOST HEAT METRIC FOR WEAPONS.

****** around with my 5SS in the same fashion and no ghost heat at all... what's da deal?

As long as you are firing 6 CMPLs or less there should be no difference than before.

Inner Sphere MPL has no Ghost Heat compared to its Clan cousin. Mostly cause if the Clan MPL has no Ghost Heat, the Direwhale will boat the **** outta them and wreck face.

And yes, the whole GH mechanics and metrics should be more newbie friendly and easily informed, as long as PGI is unwilling to remove such abomination.

As bandito said, CMPLs do have Ghost Heat.

You can fire 6 without penalty.

This is the deal:

7 IS MPLs = 42 Damage


5 CMPLs = 40 Damage


You only need 5 CMPLs, or 10 tons, to do the roughly the same damage as 7 IS MPLs, or 14 tons, and with +50% extra optimum range.

Also, watch out as these weapons are ghost heat linked with cMPL too...

Yes 6 cMPL should not have ghost heat according to the resources I've seen, but again, in game the I'm seeing ghost heat with that number and only going down to 3 cMPL seems to make the numbers line up as expected. So either that 6 cMPL number is outdated (and as far as I know pgi doesn't post their metrics for ghost heat) or there is some kind of bug.

Go ahead and test it out yourself.

I think you might be making a mistake.

I run a 6 CMPL Timber Wolf build with clearly no ghost heat.


Remember, your Heat Cap determines the total amount of available heat pool.

The number on the screen is a representation of that pool being used.

OK so what does that mean?


Your total heat cap is determined by number of DHS and what skills you have, double basics, etc.


If you have a heat cap of 100
And you fire 6 CMPLs at a total heat cost of 48 heat (8 x 6 = 48)

Then on your screen you will see "48%" heat used, because you used 48 out of 100 heat.



However, lets say you have less heatsinks and therefore your heat cap is lower.

For example, your heat cap is a teeny weeny "50" total available heat pool.


You fire your same alpha, 6 CMPLs, for a cost of 48 heat.

48 out of 50 is 96%, so now you will see your heat rise to "96%" on your screen.



Put up a smurfy's build link, tell me if you have all basics and elite skills, and I will tell you exactly what percent of heat you should see on screen when you alpha.
