Just wanted to say thanks for listening. That archetype change we were asking for for the Grasshopper worked wonders. And its nice the Gargoyle (YUSSS) and Victor got included. That, combined with the quirks for the Gargoyles I actually want to play them now. I was surprised how much of a difference it made.
Gargoyle still won't be my mech of choice, especially the A with no additional hardpoints... But still.
Here's to hoping some underused heavies get the same treatment? Quickdraw, Orion? Looking at you

EDIT: does anyone know what other little bonuses reducing an archetype incur? more thrust for JJ's or some such? It doesn't feel like an overpowering trait, so other mechs receiving this would be great

shame actual mech physical scaling is still horrendous.

That they had been abusing a broken system?

For my Crab?
Its a little disappointing after having gotten used to not getting stuck on every little stupid thing there is to get stuck on.

But I guess balance must be maintained.

Nothing. It simply had to do with terrain interaction. No agility advantage, etc.

Also, they didn't actually change the archetype, apparently, so much as were able to simply add a line of code simulating the next smaller archetype in the capsule, if I understood correctly (not a given that I did, though, lol)

Yup. Balance. Sometimes it steps all over one's fun. But nascar KGCs never made a lot of sense. At least they still turn and twist like a champ.

Yeah, the stock KGC torso twists 25% faster than a Direwolf. Or you can put in a 350-rated engine and torso twist 45% faster.

Yeah you can, but a KCG with a 350 STD is working at a huge firepower deficit vs. DWF.

That's about 11 tons less, 15 tons less if we include heatsinks. (Yes, I gave it endo.)

Which, ironically, is close to Warhawk level firepower - and much much less if we include the Warhawk's heatsinks.

Ironically, KGC with 325 engine has faster torso twist speed than a Warhawk :-) (81.3 degrees vs 80 degrees)
Better torso turn angle as well (100vs 90-100 depending on omnipods)

Don't really have a choice on that one, as the are hard wired, so the pod space on the Warhawk is at: 32.3t of free pod weight and 26 free crits...
A King Crab with Endo and a 350 STD engine is at 41.36t of free pod weight, with 23 crits free....

So nearly a 10 ton free weight advantage, that will be eaten up by heavier IS equipment, with using a bigger engine... And enjoying the armour advantage of being 15 tons heavier than the Warhawk (526 Warhawk, 614 King Crab, nearly 100 more armour)....

Long story short, I'd still take a 350 STD King Crab agianst a Dire Wolf.
