TL / DR: If PGI is paying you in actual money or in game content, NGNG streamers, you are doing them a disservice by not showcasing new game content upon release, when curious consumers are more likely to drop real money on the new items.

I'm not 100% certain of the relationship between NGNG and PGI, but I know that certain streamers such as Sean Lang have the PGI icon beside their name in game. This suggests to me that they have either a sponsorship to stream MechWarrior: Online or some other arrangement, be it financial, technical or free game content in nature. This is where some minor frustration happened for me, a consumer, since the launch of the patch on the 17th and the introduction of the Zeus and Grasshopper.

I have visited NGNG at least five or six times since patch day in hopes of catching a glimpse of the Zeus and Grasshopper in action. Would they be showcased in the Mech Lab so that I could get a better look at them than the NGNG preview videos? Simply put, I wanted a little more insight before I spent money on either package for those two new Mechs. Sadly, this was not to be. I saw some Grasshopper gameplay, true, but I also saw some Dire Wolf, Stormcrow, Hellbringer and Cicida game play. Despite numerous pleas from the audience, no Zeus gameplay was to be had. We didn't even get to see the Zeus in the Mech Lab, near as I can tell. [I left after it became evident that the Zeus would not be featured.]

Now, I'm not saying that the streamers at NGNG must play new Mechs when they come out, but I would like to point out to them that, if they're getting paid to play the game by PGI, not showcasing new product when it comes out basically hurts their employer. I still haven't bought into the two new Mechs, and I have resigned myself to live vicariously through others until I can see them in action and make a better decision. Now, after this amount of time, I'm more inclined to wait it out until they are available for C-Bills. The allure has worn off slightly.

Just some food for thought.

*** Edited for the harsh, brutal accusatory tone. ***

Dear Phil,

I know this may be hard to believe, but seeing you wear PGI tags in game, host Town Hall meetings with Russ Bullock and otherwise being invested in MechWarrior: Online, I have come to the conclusion that you are in some way affiliated with the game developer. As such, I see you as both goodwill ambassador and salesman for the game and company. In this capacity, I was somewhat disappointed on patch day that several viewer pleas for glimpses of the new Zeus were largely ignored.

The NGNG crew as a whole are the greatest streamers in the world, but on a patch day when two Mechs are introduced into the game, it would be fantastic if you could showcase both Mechs so that paying customers might make their buying decisions easier. Again, as an ambassador and possible member of the PGI team, my hope is that you will take my modest advice to heart in the future.

With all the kindness and sincerity I can muster,

Stagger

P.S. Please ignore the brutal and mean-spirited title. I meant nothing by it.

You mean like the first stream after the patch showing off the new mechs... yea sounds like a good idea..

http://www.twitch.tv/ngngtv/v/3912287

Except that is exactly what they did.

Only Sean and Bombadil are contracted for any work with PGI. The rest just stream under the NGNG banner.

You have no knowledge about their relationship yet you feel the need to post what their obligations are? Ok.

Nah, I don't really care whether they are paid by PGI or not. What worries me more is that they are strongly biased against Clans and present their wishful thinking without any serious backing as facts.

How did you miss the videos Sean Lang did right before the patch?
Granted, they were a series of 1v1s, but it should still be enough to show you how the 'Mech handles and the kinds of loadouts you can find on them.

I may sound like a [Richard], but I'm trying to help both NGNG and PGI at the same time. Not sure how rosy I need to sound to get across my frustration in the most polite manner possible. I wouldn't watch the NGNG streams if I didn't like them. They're good eggs.

The stream was 3 hours and 40 minutes long. The inside of the Zues cockpit was shown, after Sean died in his Grasshopper, at the 2 hour and fifty-five minute mark. Beyond that, the Zeus made not one appearance. Yeah... "Except that is exactly what they did." does not apply in this particular case.

A new "LOW" has been achieved by the Community today. One might think a PM to NGNG or PGI staff might be sufficient, but "NO!". Around here, a very ugly and poorly written PSA must be published for ALL to see just how helpful the TRUE MWO Forum membership can be.

[Richard] would be very proud. :(

Not only that but you can see some of them dropping with certain players frequently which makes you wonder if anyone has their ear. I hate to see a small amount of players unduly influence the game for everyone else.

Phil spend that whole stream in a grasshoper, sorry did that not meet your expectations, but neither you or I know what the expectations Between Phil/Dareaon and PGI. Your title and post is needlessly inflammatory and not constructive at all.

Sweet, I had no clue I had and undue influence on the game over everyone else since I drop with him often... I will be sure to use that from now on....

They took the time to make new preview videos for each mech. That's more than enough.

Wow... some of you are so sensitive. I'm just pointing out that they [Phil] are reprsentatives of PGI, based on their tags, and they could do a better job promoting new product. Yeah, TKSax, Phil spent the ENTIRE stream in the Grasshopper, but in case you didn't notice, the Zeus was released as well. People in chat were asking to see the Zeus, too. THAT was my issue, and I thought I was rather clear on that point in my OP, but whatever.

While you and a few others may think that those two preview vids were sufficient to promote the purchase of both the Zeus and Grasshopper, I respectfully disagree. They were both nice glimpses into the two Mechs, yes, but I wanted to see more before spending even more money on the game.

How about showcasing the new camo patterns? I know Phil did some of that. The new colours and cockpit items? I know Phil did some of that, too. What he didn't do, much to my disappointment, was showcase the Zeus.

I like Phil a the other streamers, or I wouldn't spend time watching them. The simple fact that some of you think I'm being harsh is pretty hilarious, and Almond Brown saying my post is a 'new low' for the Community is laughable. Almond, you should have seen some of the vitriol slung at PGI over things like Third Person View or the delays in Community Warfare. Perhaps the tone of the message and the title are being read in such a way, but by no means did I have a pitchfork or torch in hand while writing it up.

I did say, "Just some food for thought." at the end... not, "[expletive deleted] you Phil and all you dirty rotten NGNG streamers."

Lighten up.

How is Phil (Sean Lang) biased against Clans? He dedicates an entire weekly stream to dropping in nothing but Clan mechs.

thats ok, because everyone can has his opinion. Problematic is when PGI is using this to balance mechs.

What I miss are the trailer and preview videos of new and comming mechs aka the hero videos. Now all we have are those lame weekend update things. Show me the mech in action with weapons blazing and rock n roll playing even if it is losing badly. That would sell the mech a lot more than the curent look here conecpt art and a price tag.

The mechs came out Tuesday, Phil Streamed one new mech all day Tuesday, he did not stream yesterday, Thursday has traditionally been and IS mech day for that last month, so my guess he might stream the Zeus all day today.

Maybe you should learn to express yourself in a more constructive manner, Your title and most of your post are very accusatory and with out any true constructive criticism and sounded like had pitchfork in hand. Simply throwing "food for thought" at the end does not make a post "constructive". Even when I was very anti PGI/IGP I always tried to make my post's non-accusatory and constructive.
