Upgrades:
Structure
Armor
Heatsinks
Engine
JumpJet

can only be changed in a MechFactory - maybe they have even to "create" a complete new production line just for your private Mech.
Thats nice isn't it?

So this should work for Omni as well as BattleMechs.

You buy your Mech and you have once the chance to make an upgrade - not a second time.
So if you think the Thor would be better with a 275 STD engine ??? - you take you Mech...for the most port it would be the Thor D
  • you switch the Engine, 275 STD
  • mount ES,
  • no additional heatsink
  • keep FF armor with max armor
  • 3 JumpJets
  • remove hand activators/keep lower arm activators (for better field of fire)
  • place the "Dynamic" manually
  • choose to have 8 free crit slots in each arm and each ST
  • 31 t modul capacity for
  • 2 Ballistic HP, 4 Energy HP, 2 AMS
After that - you can't mount different Pods - you can't replace the Structure Slots, you can't add or remove JumpJets

Well that would be a great chance for Clan Mechs - but as far as i know they would still complaint that IS Mechs could swich when ever they want - so yes make it the same for IS Mechs. That would burn my money faster as i can earn it.

To prevent to much vanilla choices - we need lemons

A good lemon would be - you can't choose the Engine Rating as you wish:
you got some "room" +15-15 for Assaults and +/-10 Heavys +/-5 for Mediums and nothing for Lights - and you have to stick with the "weight groups"
based on the TT Movement Speed - the Engine Cap only stay for Mechs crossing the 150-170 kph border.

So for example the Stalker might have:
155-185;240-270;325-355 Engines
Catapult A1 ;)
120-140;185-205;250-270;315-335;380-400
Locust
60;80;100;120;140;160;180;200????
TimberWolf
215-235;290-310;365-385

Not sure what you are suggesting exactly, but if you are going to use TT engine rules use the TT engine rules. Stalker gets a choice between 170, 255 (stock), and 340, that's it.

Well the engine restriction is just a lemon - and to stay true to the TT engine rules - would turn a sweet lemon into a sour lemon
but you know - i can live with that.

the main idea behind this suggestion is - give Claners what they think they want:
switchable engines, and structural upgrades.... but for lemons (no OmniPods) no extra change

And the "no change" applied for IS Mechs too

I got up this morning to suggest something very much right on par with this.

I do not understand that when I go and buy a Mech, that there are not a select few itemized drop down items to change the output of the mech specifically as it relates to Clan.

I see no reason that I can't buy an Omni-Pod type mech with different features out of the factory (No Jump Jets, Larger Engine (STD instead), change the armor type, etc.), but the (Money SInk) is that you cannot change it once it is out of the factory (these areas specifically).

So, if I want three different, truely different styles of the same mech for different roles, I will have to buy three mechs (oh, and look, suddenly I have more of a reason to do so than skilling them).

There needs to be an opt-out option for questions 2 to 4, as there is no chance for anyone to answer question one negativly, without answering the others as if it where a positive reaction.

This is a tabletop thing, it isn't very applicable in MWO. It's realistic, but realism isn't very useful in an instant action style game. MWO isn't a simulation, it probably shouldn't be either.

It would simply result in players buying mech duplicates to have various builds, which is stupid. PGI would make more money on mechbays, but more realistically people would just build to the meta and never change. Mechs would sort down to 'the best build' and there would be very little change.

Right now there isn't much incentive to change anyway, because quirks encourage very specific setups on most mechs.

Technically, if you wanted to make the game 'harder' PGI would just institute tabletop engine rules. 90% of builds would instantly become impossible.

Well Meta changes, build your mech 100% Meta and you can use the extra handle from the resistance / Invasion models to throw them in the bin.

But it will give Omni Mechs the option to change - that will be extrem important the Moment Clan second liner appear in the Theater
