- Hey guys I have been playing for a 2 weeks now and am currently leveling a T bolt. I did all the basic skills for the 5SS playing a wub wub 7 med pulse build and do OK with it. I am now moving to the 9SE and found this build on the meta mechs website. http://mwo.smurfy-ne...201873eecd27292. I will be honest I am a bit hesitant with it right now as it has an XL Engine 285 which makes me SOFT. Also my piloting skills are average at best. What is the thought process behind this build? You cant really brawl as you are too soft with an XL engine and its not a sniper. So is it a Heavy Skirmisher with good fire power that can reach medium distances and move well? I am having reasonable success with it but am kind of unsure of its role.
New Player Help With This T Bolt 9Se

Try this: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...0d14bff723666c9
It plays a lot like the Thunderwub, but has jump jets.

Thanks Bandit, That is the other build that is linked in the meta mechs website. It is more straight forward and looks to be a brawler with a bit better range then the 7 MPL 5SS. Maybe you or someone else can tell what exactly the role is of the 9SE XL Engine Quad LPL build is supposed to be?

The idea is to maximize damage output by using the mech's LPL quirks. As you noticed, the build is very squishy. In fact, many heavy and assault mechs will die very quickly with XL engines. You do it for fun, or for a very specific, careful playstyle called "let the team tank first".

In terms of weapons, the large pulse lasers are being used as if twin AC/20s. 2 LPL does 21.2 damage. 1 AC/20 does 20 damage.
2 AC/20s = 40 damage. 4 LPLs = 42.4 damage. Of course, both will punish you for using too many of the same type at once. So you can solo-fire a single AC/20 (2 LPL) or fire it all at once for a penalty.
The penalty of twin AC/20s is 11.52 extra heat (12 + 11.52 = 23.52 heat for what individually is 6 heat). If you keep doing it however, the heat spike you get will be worse and worse.
4 LPL totals to 33.88 heat. But 1) it is applied over the duration of your beam, and 2) this isn't counting the heat reductions of the mech of -20% (doesn't apply to the ghost heat, but 28 heat - 20% = 22.4 heat + ghost penalty of 5.88 = 28.28, with quirks also giving you significantly longer range than the twin AC/20 build, fast beam time, fast refire rates)...
It's basically a deadly cannon.
I personally would throw more armor on that left arm and less on the head. I might even go so far as to throw just 3 LPL on the LT and use the free weight for other weapons, or go 2 LPL on the right arm and stock up on other weapons (or ditch the XL engine either way).
This says a lot about the negative effects of quirks on MWO. After going through all sorts of trouble to discourage boating, we now have a system that enforces that boating is the only way to go.

This is what I ran with when I used the Thunderbolt 9SE
Wasn't too bad but I kept switching between the LRM10 and SRM6.
