There are features that MWO wants but dosn't need so they get put on low priority. WHat about lending the IP, assets, and such to a 3rd party game dev to build out add-ons, updates, and separate but link-able titles?

Some ideas:
  • Make the tutorial a single or co-op campaign, each faction getting their own story.
  • User based maps, with an always on beta server with the custom maps that need dev and player approval before application
  • Filler units: air, land, space and sea all have a deep history and lore in Battletech. Could't a third party dev make all these for use in maps, story, ect?
I know money is always a big deal, so why doesn't MWO host a kickstarter or other crowd regular crowd funding effort to pay for the best ideas?

thoughts?

This likely isn't written into their contract.

Hell. I'd be surprised if there weren't people already willing to do this just for MC or free premium time. If I had the expertise I probably would. :D

Look at Valve. The easiest way to rake in cash AND make your fan-base happy is provide the very best modding, mapping, and other tools.

A bunch of nerds play this game, PGI. These nerds would make WONDERFUL things because they play this game hours and hours each day. They know what they want, and they know what most people want. They read EVERYTHING in the forums, and some of them actually have expertise in mapping and other things.

It is my firmly-held belief that the very best, cheapest, quickest, and most efficient way to improve MWO is to give proper tools to members of the community wishing to map, bug-test, improve UI, etc. You're essentially getting FREE SLAVE LABOUR...but its legal! (I think)

My only fear with this is splitting of the player base, with ppl ending up playing at different servers with different alterations. There could be a "beta pipeline" with limited access for testing PGI aproved user content though.
