Are there any forseeable variants of this iconic assault mech where its layout is 1 Ballistic slot on the right AND left torso, with 1 energy per arm and 2 energy in the center (or just forgoing the energy slots all together)? Quirks would be AC/20 Cooldown, Range, Velocity, AND Ballistic Cooldown, Range, Velocity!

2 AC/20s one on each torso utilizing the arms as shields (until they get blown off)!

The problem with AC20's is how ridiculously easy they are to blow up. On the Atlas side torsos, they protrude like..... Well, let's just say they're damn easy to shoot off. A variant like that might work well against people who don't know how to fight an Atlas, but eh. Wouldn't be pretty.

The King Crab has it worse with its AC/20s on its shield size-arms, lol. Yet people still make the most of it. At least the Atlas would be able to use its arms as a shield.

Do we really need a new Atlas variant? There is already like 6.

The KGC gets +17 armor on its arms. The Atlas has no bonuses to torso armor. Most people will focus fire the AC20's on an Atlas because it's easiest to take that out then core it. With a KGC, killing both its arms takes far longer than just CT coring it.

I hardly ever run an Atlas anymore because of how quickly the AC/20 gets blown off. It used to be a great mech and a feared assault. Now it seems they are easily killed and no one seems to avoid attacking one. My DDC with 2xLL, AC/20, 3xSRM6 +ECM was one of my favorites until my AC20 now seems to be blown off almost instantly. Could really need a quirk pass on the Atlas.

I say they fix the Atlas before adding any more variants in. I have all 6 current variants. While it can still be fun to stomp around in the original biggest mech, it needs some additional armour stats or something to make it on par with the other 100-tonners..

As others have commented, the AS7 really needs an additional 15% armour on everything except the legs in order to compensate for it's severe lack of hard points for its weight.

There is, sort of, an AS7 that has a gun rack on each side. I remember it being in the mech-tech version of MW4M. I think it was called the Warlord or similar...

I checked through the variants listed on Sarna:
http://www.sarna.net...las_(BattleMech)

There are no variants listed with ballistic hardpoints in both torsi. That does not rule out the possibility; MWO creates there own custom, non-lore variants from time to time. These usually end up as hero 'mechs.

That being said, I don't think anyone wants to see an atlas that carries two gauss rifles. What does it think it is, a dire wolf?

Well ol' Kgc is already here... we could use a JJ capable Atlas with dual ballistic, more than enough energy and missile hardpoints. Just give Clanners Blood Asp and make Warlord c-bill-able.

Nobody wants an atlas with jump jets. The jump jets in this game are just wasted tonnage - unless you're in a light 'mech and running six or more, or just adding one jump jet to your build for the hill-climbing exploit.

An atlas will never make it off the ground, alas. Not with gravity set at four times Earth standard.

The "Warlord" Atlas variant doesn't have a Sarna entry, thus rendering it of dubious canonicity. It's mentioned under the "Mek pak 3 mechs" section of this page:

http://www.sarna.net..._4:_Mercenaries

But if you click on the "Warlord" name the link goes to an empty page. It used to have a description of the Warlord as being an AS7 with dual gun racks, more energy hard points etc etc and that the venerable AS7 design was upgraded to keep up with "more modern" assault mechs. Strange that the page is now blank, no idea what happened to it

Careful what you wish for, we dont need MWO to become Blood Asp Party Online, that thing would be downright broken in this game, not to mention the supernova of "Clans OP" whining that would explode on these forums.
