I just reinstalled MWO and ran repair tool multiple times.
I always took it for granted that repair tool would clear the shader cache for me.

It seems that when PGI decided to standardise the MWO directories.
They forgot to update repair tool with the path to clear new shader cache directories ?

Is this why we have been getting more graphics glitches recently ?

Hmmmmm.... Clear the correct shader cache directories people.

How do you clear them? Simply delete these three files? Why is it called clearing if you are actually deleting?

A "cache" is a place where things are stored, usually temporarily. By deleting these files, you are clearing the contents of the cache and forcing the game to rebuild it.

Yep... The old method was to just delete them
Depending which directx u are using there should be a "D3D9" or "D3D11" or BOTH in "\Saved Games\MechWarrior Online\Shaders\Cache".

Edit:
After the last round reinstall MWO, Repair Tool (multiple times till no errors) with MWOclient and repair tool given admin privilege, MWOupdate and PAK folder given Write rights to "user", clearing of shader cache in the correct directory.

I have not crashed tonight no weird super FPS drops in Forest Colony snow. The FPS in that map is lower than before but the FPS did not tank to unacceptable levels.
Fingers crossed.

I have never actually *manually* cleared the shaders cache, I have only ever heard people speak of it.
No idea if it is affecting my performance at all (though at this stage I cannot be certain anyhow as the game is literally unplayable when your computer decides to only connect to the Internet for minutes at a time) but I might just go to that directory and delete those files... later.

You just locate the Shaders folder and delete it.

Noticed this too, after running repair tool multiple times over the past few weeks.
