I really would like to see weather play a bigger role on the Maps. I think things like fog and rain storms and flooding and even earth quakes could add a lot to game play. I mean just think how a flood might change play on a map. The flooded parts of the maps become in assessable or the land is so muddy is causes your Mech to slow down because it is sinking. I remember one of the big selling points for me back in beta was frozen city and how the winter would force you to use your heat vision to see other mechs I really thought that was so cool. One problem I see with a game like this is that the tactics become very repetitive after everyone realizes where the sweat spots are on the map. I think you could stop this by using random events. Maybe you could add a weather report at the beginning of the drop that would give some Intel that section b5 to b7 has been flooded. So now Lance commanders would have to change there tactics. I really do think there are an infinite number of possibilities here and plus I think this would breath new life into old maps.

Greetings,

Weather effects require greater rendering cycles, similar to adding smoke and new effects particles.

- if the code can be optimised, Dx11 features used, some elements handed to the GPU, we may see some eye candy added.

As you mentioned, battles don't always happen when it's noon and sunny. Tactical advantage of weather does play a large part IRL, just rendering it in-game is another matter.

The feature your referring to about the weather report was from one of the past MW games. At the drop, Betty would give you a run down of the planet and local conditions, including time. Then start the sensor update for Nav points and friendlies.

I'm not sure that changing the water level is even possible in CryEngine. Assume that it will never happen - it's too complicated a mechanic for too little of a gameplay enhancement.

Weather is doable, just probably not dynamic weather over the course of a single map instance. There's a big difference between maps that have fog in them and having fog randomly forming on a map. Also dynamic water effects are out, besides thing like tech demos running water in situations where FPS matters isn't happening for awhile. Earthquakes could be done. Rain could be done.

The main problem with weather simulations in competitive games is that the kind of rendering needed for realistic weather almost immediately excludes the low-spec players. It's almost worse when the game tries to have it both ways, where you can turn off things like fog, weather, smoke or vegetation, because the extra performance from switching it off gives you the choice between something that looks good, and may even run well on your machine, or being competitive. Especially when the rendering has a material effect on visibility.

I'd just like to see variables on the current maps.

We have River City, and River City: Night, for example. how about Tourmaline: Night, or fog on Alpine, or something other than the same maps that have the exact same weather conditions and time of day for every battle.

In theory, this would be a cheap way to reuse existing assets to make "new" - or at least new feeling - maps.
