Battletech IP and rights ownership is such a mess that no one wants to even think about making a movie using this IP

It isn't happening. Too many fingers in the pie to be affordable, not a big enough fanbase to justify the risk.
Neg to both! Microsoft owns all the rights except the toy rights I believe. PGI has a license from Microsoft. So. Unless Im missing something, one just has to call microsoft and offer to license the franchise. Something Ive been putting off until i have a viable script in hand.

This was actually brought up on the Battletech forums - The movie rights are owned by some high ranking Disney executive. Not Disney, but an executive. Catalyst also generally has the book rights.

So...

Movie Rights: Some dude
Accompanying Video Game: Microsoft, PGI
Accompanying Books: Topps/CGL
Merchandise: Topps

IS there any info on the specific exec? Its super easy to digg up info on execs of large companies once you know who they are.

There was. People knew his name and they found his holding company, but I can't recall either at the moment.

Dean Devlin and Electric Entertainment champion the idea of a MechWarrior movie a few time but his idea seems to be stuck in in Development Hell, which is a upgrade from Dead on Arrival last time I looked it up.

Even if Dean Devlin finds a money man who likes his idea for a MW movie, the Halo movie that never was proves Microsoft will probably find a way to kill it out of pure stupidity.

As much as I'd love to see one, it might be somewhat impractical. While there are a definite group of people (me included) that are nearly fanatical about the franchise, most people in the world really have no idea what it is. Even if you dropped the rulebook or a box of pewter miniatures on their big toe.

For this to work, you'd need to have a director that doesn't mind dabbling in some Sci-Fi and that knows how to use B-list or C-list actors (I'm thiking someone like Guillermo Del Toro or Neill Blomkamp). I'd then suggest that, as blasphemous to some as it may be, toss out pretty much all of existing canon and come up with a fresh new script that would appeal to the masses, but one that still hearkens back faintly enough to canon that those of us that do care would recognize it.

Then, a Mechwarrior/Battletech movie might have a shot...

God help us all if Michael Bay gets involved in something like this... :)

Get Michael Bay to make a movie about battlemech warfare and someone else to make Game of Thrones in space then splice them together.

In other words intellectual plots with the requisite action/violence. Think Terminator meets Sons of Anarchy.

You want 'What a Twist' in your Mechwarrior movie? Why?

listen man, bird brains would be entertaining as hell as a soace fairing race that operates cargo ships.

To your second question; Because Marik exists and there for Marik will always twist.

Its not a good time for it, think of the competition. you got Disney milking the Sci-fi/super hero thing right now and thats steep competition. This line could be the next "Star Wars" but you would need to place this coming out at the right time and have the proper funding to be at the same level as said competition.

assuming we dive into feature film terrirtory you are absolutely correct.
However, if we were to go TV mini series like AMCs into the badlands or fullblown BSG, we might be able to garner more of an audience, especiwlly since game of GOT is ending. Man if i could pay for the writers behind BSG id quit my job and work on the show full time.

I forgot who the author is but the guy that did the book series with Price Victor heading out for the trial of Annihilation of CSJ was a killer read, don't know how he would do on a script.

I read a ton of great books in the Battletech Universe would be great to see them collaborate for a pilot.

They were making the story up as they went, one episode at a time. God Magic was literally the only way to patch the mess they were making.
