There is more than enough material for good stories at least.
And if a studio would be serious about making a movie or a series of movies, I don't think they would have too much problems with Harmony Gold.

Just don't focus too much on mech battles.
Good movies live from good characters and a good story. Action sequences are just the cream on top of it.

I'd love to see the Gray Death story, but I agree that it might be better to start with a single movie.
The idea to start with Kerensky and the Star League is excellent.

All this talk and no mention of the Mechwarrior 3 intro? Cause if they made a movie set in the BT universe I would hope it would be something like this.
Not graphics wise of course but the way its portrayed. best MW intro imo.

I'd like to see David Benioff and Dan Weiss (the guys behind the HBO Game of Thrones show) try to work Battletech. They have shown themselves to be more than capable of translating a written work onto the small screen (and would BT work as a movie? It might be better as a television series, or a mini-series with a bigger budget).

They were able to illustrate the political thriller aspect of GoT rather well, given the medium. A big space opera like BT or Dune seems right up their alley to me.

edit: sort of off topic, but how cool would it be to see a Dune based t.v. show on HBO?!

Produced by Uwe Boll, written by Stackpole, and directed by Michael Bay. With so much crazy combined it might just work.
Stackpole doesn't fit in. Actually I think he knows his profession. Uwe Boll(ocks)...and Bay...ummmm...

Eh, doesnt help that EA ran it into the ground around the time that space sims fell off their pilar of popularity.

They would definitely have to do the invasion from the get-go, since its the most engaging premise from a general moviegoer POV

Perhaps after that, they could do prequels to flesh out the universe

But the BT universe is so complex that they'd probably leave out a lot of .. stuff, ie batchalls, clan trials

OK so maybe not a movie but a Game of Thrones esque show?

You could make it sexy and still have huge mech battles

Because no one would pay to see it, same reason there's no good mech warrior games. (except LL that was forced to shut down). Even I as a mechwarrior fan probably wouldn't pay to go see a battletech movie.

Indeed, I'd be asking a lot of questions, who's directing?, budget, etc; before I'd go see it.

The OP had me till he said Michael Bay. For the love of god, no Michael Bay. I don't need racist stereotypes, nonstop explosions, and robots with nads in my Battletech movie.

I'd like a Movie a bit more Game of Thrones-ish. Something concentrating more on the fighting between the IS houses and their thirst for power. Maybe have it take place during the one of the Succession Wars. I could see it including a later timeline for clans as well.

Just keep that Transformers crap out of it lol.

A super high budget mini series based on the break up of the star league and everything that goes with it.

Depending on popularity and success of the mini series, an on going tv/online series ( more for online, because who wants to watch tampon commercials during their battle tech show) based on the succession wars.

Then if all goes well a super high budget movie on the clan invasion leaving it open ended for more movies. :)

Hows that sound? :)

If one more person says Let Michael Bay Do It, I'm going to nuke everything. I don't know how, but I will.

But but but... Below-average-IQ people need Michael to make movies they can understand!
Or Ridley Scott (then they have movies with nothing to be understood...)

 (Chris Nolan could be a 3rd choice, kinda like Ridley's syndrom, but better at making you feel like there might be something to understand)...

You lost me at Bay, and keep JJ Abrams away from it too. I want the story to make sense...

Ya, Bay offers nothing but explosions and mindless action. The last Transformers movie is one of the worst and most boring movies I've seen so far.

I think Joss Whedon would do a better job...or James Cammeron, or Ridley Scott.
A movie with lots of special effects and boring stereotype characters would fail and there would be no big stompy robot movies for a long time.

Imho, there are too few really good scifi movies. Most of them are either bad or just labeled scifi.
The Marvel movies are doing great though, and we'll see how the new Star Wars movies will turn out.
If the movies are good...maybe, sometime...Battletech: The fall of the Star League

Indeed, loved that intro, still watch it ever now and then.

Would love to see a BT/MW movie or mini series if done right.
