Am I the only kinda feeling like every map has the same sort of game play either it be CW or Normal drops...The maps favor engagement areas and choke points....Can we please get some more open warfare maps...larger maps maybe more players? a CW drop that would feel more like a battle then a focused brawling/sniping lanes....Keep the gate system have it called siege or something IDK but also create this new game style. Imagine the team base capture game mode but on a larger scale. Or a Conquest style where winner at the end of the match with the most nodes wins not the points from captured. And also Drops zones selection by Lance/Star Commander these being several km's apart to prevent complete spawn camping. Would encourage no death ball tactics but allowing each lance to have an objective to take and hold. Maybe reinforce or flank to help another lance. Death balls would not work due to needing to control lots of ground. I would love to see a match style that could reward versatility more then meta builds. Where scouts could use terrain to get into positions to spot and scout not always engage but report movements and spots. Just would like to see some maps with variety...Shoot and Scoot maps...LARGE maps like seen in MW4 days....More mission driven game play in some cases then just kill this and kill them style....Anyone else?

Yes I post this in General Discussion but it got over taken figured people would see it more here.

what i'd like to see is a Solaris Arena deathmatch. 24 men enter, 1 man leaves.

Solaris....But! With only Urbanmechs! But don't think that would settle CW matches to well.

I want both OP's suggestion and Solaris 24 free for all. Preferably with open weightclasses.

Worried the last 2 mechs will be someone who just hides in a corner? Plenty of ways to discourage that.
- Most damage wins. Most kills won't work since it's easier to get a killshot than it is to get through all that armor first.
- If you don't do damage within a certain amount of time you get penalised/disqualified.

most kills or last man standing wins. cunningly waiting out infighting and then feasting on the wounded is a classic solaris tactic.

G'day,

You make some good points about CW maps Crottykid. I'm largely in agreement with you on this, but unfortunately, your excellent points were instantly derailed by an irrelevant post about Solaris deathmatch. Yes, I'd also like to see more open terrain and circumstances that are much more conducive to tactical maneuver fighting. Maps which lend themselves to more approach avenues and vectors, rather than a strict reliance upon sheer volume of firepower combat down a narrow series of corridors. Count the number of maps where the later occurs. Is everywhere. Clear weather would be a nice change as well. I'm getting so tired of the usual fare of dull greys and browns.

I tend to find that in virtually every CW encounter, the engagement is some sort of variation of running into the guns at Balaclava, going over the top at the Somme or straight into the hot gates at Thermopylae. Nor do I see an enclosed arena event, as hinted by Solaris, being an attractive alternative. We already get enough of deathmatch elsewhere. So yes, I;d like to see an end to maps which are a series of corridors designed to funnel players into choke points. Yes to a more open maps that encourages much more expansive play.

Give me a map with nice, rolling tank country. A piece of terrain that is logically worth fighting for. Not some worthless ravine or cliff that would be unoccupied in real life. Enough of the rat maze defensive positions. Is probably just another reason why CW sucks and why the everyday punter continues to bail from it. But that's my vent for now. Don't need to reply, this post will soon be buried anyway. Nothing whatsoever on the developers road map about this. Apart from leveling out some resistance mech's, its probably back to flight sims or something else for me. Am starting to loose interest with current fare in MWO.

Maybe time for a break,

Regards

You wont' see larger player on a map. Simply because pushing from 8v8 to 12v12 required them to make certain optimizations and the servers still shiver when the wind blows through too hard on the server's building.

gates dont really work on open maps, because it pretty much turns that open map into a lane map. what if you made it kind of like conquest with capable firebases in the map. these locations come with turrets, and great defensive positions. attackers would spawn at the closest allied firebase to the objectives, while defenders would spawn near the objectives, but could move forward to capture and utilize the firebases (they would own them initially but would still spawn at base).

nothing prevents the enemy from rushing the base, though open ground would make that difficult especially with all the direct lines of sight. the base objectives and fire bases could be equipped with hardened lrm turrets to help deter rush attacks. firebases would be used to deny territory. so its a good idea to own as many as possible. an attacker can force their spawn right on top of the enemy so that the attackers can have continuous reinforcement and can grind away their defences.

Gates work on open maps...if you build walls. You know, like a real-life version of what a fortified location would look like.

As stated by Draughluin rolling country side would be an awesome game! A map set in the plains....give us some maps giving more freedom in planning on both sides. Base defenses I don't feel would be the answers...now if they added AI armor /elementals to defend be awesome along with each base offering a landing/drop zone would be sweet! I want to see a simulator based game...keep the heal and everything as is just larger battlefield to play on. Also since large maps rearm and repair points would be useful then. Either at your local drop points or key objectives...each FOB having limited supplies though. Say like 5 to 10 tons of ammo. Also rearming would take several minutes. I just hate these maps that favor brawling builds or packing as many large lasers as you can on your mech (looking at you stalkers!) Also a siege mode on a castle style fort in the open would be pretty epic like assaulting a city or some thing.

My preference is to not have any weight classes at all because:

The only win condition I want is "last man standing". I want to see the most treacherous, underhanded, and malicious tactics one can ever imagine to be employed. :D

With the exception of most kills, I call that a good start.

You mean like a persistent world battle where it's a massive map and you have to pick tactical objectives...kind of like Planetside 2?

That would be entertaining but I do not feel it would fly to well with the system and everything.
