Can we do something to discourage the bumper car tactics of trying to make little baby mechs during combat. It's not to much of a stretch that such uses of explosive ordnance from ACs and missiles and various thermal aspects of lasers would cause damage to the firing mech.

I propose two methods:
1) All weapons have a minimal range of like 5m.
Or
2) Include friendly splash damage to self as appropriate for the weapon, allow us to decide whether it's worth the risk to take splash damage while engaging.

Wouldn't that encourage humping?

What they need to do is add melee attacks.

No to splash damage. It doesn't work in MWO's version of cryengine, causes serious problems. That's why missiles don't splash anymore.

Can you imagine if they brought back collisions/knockdowns with an actual algorithm for speed and weight of the mechs involved in the collision....Gargoyles, Awesome 9m's, Banshees, Battlemasters, Victors and Zeuses become a different kind of dangerous with their 80ish top speed and chunkiness

The Awesome is rather unAwesome right now, I can only hope that "Awesome Bowling" would brighten their pilot's lives

My 75 Kph Banshee would love something to do with his hands...

LET ME WUB YOU, THEN LET ME SMASH YOU.
The TT WubShee might have a hatchet as well....that'd be nice.

I'd prefer collisions without knockdowns as the first step towards fixing this.

And collateral damage from ammo explosions.

inb4 "but then kamikaze Locusts with 95 tons of AC20 ammo will ruin the game". Yeah, I don't see that happening, really. If people want to kamikaze, the Direstar is a lot more effective.

Yeah, the Direstar can get two kills in, rather than just one :)

And yet here we are with SPlash effect CERPPC...I suppose that would explain why it's hit detect is ****....a splash weapon in a engine that doesnt support it well....

And all the dry humping is a result of the peekaboo meta we have in this game. We all are more or less forced to play this game like WoT, corner peeking and trying to avoid getting lolpha'd in the face, so yeah, 10 mechs all trying to peek around the same 20x20inch square on a corner.....it is ***** stupid as **** though...

the cERPPC isn't a splash damage weapon, it piggybacks on damage transfer. They're different things, even if the end result is similar.

Splash weapons hit everything inside a radius - missiles used to do this. What happens though is the complex geometry of mechs and Cryengine never being designed to directly support multi-hitbox objects like mechs in this way resulted in single missiles doing upwards of 12 damage vs. some targets in particular. This was a major contributing factor to the SplatCat's power in it's day, as SRM's could do really insane damage. Anyways, they fought that bug for months to no success, and eventually just reduced the missile weapon splash range to 1cm to effectively disable it.

cERPPC's use a totally different effect, just doing additionaladditional 2.5 (not part of its list damage of 10) damage to up 2 neighboring components.

Its not a result of any "meta", its a fairly natural result of wanting to get into cover but there being limited cover available. We've *always* had that happening, at least since the start of open beta.

Definitely not splash damage, but yes to collision damage. I'm tired of sliding off objects and 'Mechs. I want to see some real consequences to ramming your Firestarter into a wall or Atlas at 136km/h, an actual sickening crunch and completely shaving off your speed.

And the physics have always been a little screwed up on surfaces when it comes to JJs. If you pop your JJs just before running into a wall instead of going splat you retain some amount of that speed and slide straight up the wall. I don't get the sense in that.

Yeah, but if damage was at a more reasonable output, like 10-30 sporadically, cuz some enemy mechs are to hot to fire or dont wanna spend the heat, if there was actually a window of time one could poke out and move wihtout having the whole of the enemy team able to rapidly fire off 30-50 point volleys every 3 seconds, we would see more movement, flanking and less humping a single corner cuz it offers hte best protection...its actually more the game's design rather then any meta.

Right now, you poke out, you melt....MWO is alot like World of Tanks at Tier 10, where some tanks can deal upwards of 1900 dmg a shot, either destroying you outright, or leaving you wiht like 100 hp, half your modules destroyed and barely able to limp back into cover before some one else finishes you off...

Wish MWO was more like WoT's lower tiers......much lower damage output.......
