Interestingly my interest follows the order of your choices:

1. The Succession Wars Era is my favorite period in fiction, but it isn't that prominent in fiction (only a handful of novels and source books). Part of this is probably because this was the era that existed when I started BT.

2. The Clan invasion is probably my second favorite era. It was dynamic and shook up the status quo. The clans were fearsome and interesting. Most of the time I was interested in BT was during the Clan era so that also probably played a part.

3. The Civil war was a bit interesting to be, I enjoyed many of the books and sourcebooks. It was pretty dynamic and the whole 'brother against brother' (or I suppose brother against sister in this case) thing is interesting. I'm an American Civil War buff as well though. I liked this period but didn't love it.

4. At the end of the Civil War when FASA went out of business I read up on the Dark Ages and rolled by eyes and largely quit BT. The whole Jihad and subsequent events sounded like bad fan fiction. However recently I purchased Cataclysm Jihad books and was pleasantly surprised. They were kinda restricted because the future was already set but I think they did a good job and I actually liked it (still the Jihad is defiantly behind the other eras).

5. The Dark Ages. Like many other people this just wasn't really BT to me. I kinda liked the fact that they were going back to their roots and getting a little more primitive (mechs were rare and powerful, ect). I didn't really have a problem with industrial mechs and the like per say. But something about the whole thing just seemed off. But to be fair I really haven't given this era a chance, I haven't read any of the novels or other books. Who knows maybe one day I will come to like this era.

One thing I will say is that I respect the new mechs designs, but I hate how they bastardized the old ones. And you know you've messed up when you mistake a Mad Cat for a Mad Cat II.

I love the succession wars. The Clan invasion could of been great, but the actual clans/culture is pretty stupid. Derp I'm Clan Blue Butterfly derp... FedCom Civil War was meh. Jihad and Dark Ages.... don't make me laugh...

How I would of done it.... 3050s would of been peace between the major powers. Around 3065 a force from the outside would invade because of a real reason (not derp we will protect IS by killing IS derp). This real reason could be the star they settled around was on the brink of super nova, etc. The decade of peace would bring the powers back up to strength to fight this foe. The war with the new comers would be brutal, and eventually attrition would cause minor uprising away from the action. When all is said and done the 5 IS nations would be 15... You could have 50 years of system state wars with the major powers before bringing in new major powers or having reunifications... And think of it, none of nations would be named Clan Pink Pandas....

It seems more logical to me anyway... But BT was never really logical... Stomp stomp pew pew.
