Greetings, guys.
Im interested in game community, so I have created this poll. In many times i have seen the situations, when language barrier has ruined the guilds, clans, and game fun at all. What do you think, is the mechwarrior can be truly international, or not?

I'd really like for MWO to be multi-lingual and not have to worry about downloading a completely seperate client just to play in my secondary language choice. Most of the time I will want to play in English but there will be times when I will want to play in Chinese (Simplified), especially when I am playing with my wife..

I'd like to be able to simply go into the options menu and pick the language.. whether it requires a restart of the client or not, I don't mind. I am aware that out of the box the client may only support English menus and that translation might take a few months to get everything in for a patch but I'd like it to be there just the same.

Altough I speak german most sychronizations are terrible so I prefer english in games. worst is if the director and writer have no idea about what they (or rather the actors= have to talk about.

* without any emotion*

oh my god they have killed james, we have to avenge him

*pause*

now

*no change in pitch of voice still without emotions*

revenge

that was a typical german vocalization for games... nice is also a mismatch of voices instead of a deep resonant voice some bulky guy get a high pitched voice or the voices change completely between episodes..

so better stay with english...

Here in Russia, where i live, i have many friends, who dont speak English at all. They desperately want game to be translated, but afraid of russian localisators and publishers, coz they can take a candy bar and turn it into a piece of s%$t. So i take a minimal risk and play an english version. Also, i have make an offer to developers, if they need the localisation team ^__^ coz we are doing this damn good ^_^

IMO keep it simple for now and get the game up and running. However, I do believe if the client base is big enough people should have the game in their native tongue.

Sorry only English here, but the Mechwarrior universe has many languages. Though most in MW speak several languages I would venture in the USA most only speak one. Since the game will be played by many and not being able to communicate with your lance mate would create a problem I would fully support there being other servers that would support the major languages of our community.

I'll be honest... language localization is a double-edged sword.

I play World of Tanks on the EU server. Do you know how many people on any given 15-man-team are able to communicate well enough in a common language to form a coherent plan? The answer is: about 3 out of 15, sometimes 4. Matches alternate between grim silence with zero communication that leaves you feel like you're playing a singleplayer campaign with NPCs regardless of whether you win or lose, and a flurry of chat spam in six different languages, most of which consists of insults (there is apparently a good number of people who feel that insults are extra funny if the person targeted by it cannot understand the word).

I am German, but I'll tell you this... if the ping to the US servers for MWO is in any way bearable, then I will not be transferring to a potential EU server. I will be lagging, but at the very least I will be able to play with people who can understand what I am saying. In my home region in Europe, I won't be getting that.

Whether or not localisation is in the game, if people choose to "chat" in their other language they will. What I would like is menus and text in the game (not chat text) to be in the other language (for me, Chinese).

Language localisation doesn't make people chat in that language, it just makes it easier for those people who's English (or whatever) isn't up to scratch and would prefer to read things in their mother tongue.

I speak English, didn't pick up French from school or my mother's family, and am learning Japanese, although slowly. I have played a lot of EVE Online and have on more then one occasion have been under a Russian fleet commander on a major op. I have also played World of Tanks on the North American server. Given the right group, language can be overcome. But WoT has also shown me that people that are suppose to be speaking the same language as myself can be speaking multiple different languages. If the more general attitude of "let's have fun together" shows up here as it does for the most part in EVE then I welcome multi-language support. A good lance commander will be able to call out targets and goals regardless of the situation.

Do you know how hard it is to get people to listen to you in this type of game when there is NO language barrier? One problem with a F2P game is that you run into a lot of people with this type of attitude:

In a game that requires teamwork to win you've basically lost if you can't communicate. Now sometimes players can read their allies intention based on what they are playing and where they are going. But you never really know for sure. If on the other hand he says, "I'm going to guard the cave" you know exactly what he's doing.
