So recently I looked at the CW map just for comparison to lore.
No, I am not demanding lore be pushed on people, just thought it would be interesting to see how CW players were doing compared to lore, this happens in games based on fictional history.
First note the time is still 3050, there was supposed to be a advancing timeline but we are still frozen at 3050.
Second, the CW Clans got further in one game year than lore Clans did in 3, in addition Liao got shrunk even further plus some border shifts elsewhere.
So given those definitions, how do you feel about the frozen time period and border changes?
I believe the time is frozen because if it is not, the question of tech access comes up. Probably a way to do that using Achievements where, say, a IS player reaches a certain Achievement level, he unlocks use of Clan ERMLs, etc. and with weapon differences, possibly same for Clans. Problem is giving each side access must be difficult to code and opens up the question of how bad things would be if everyone had access to the same Mechs & tech.
As for the map, kinda takes the meaning out of things when anyone can advance so easily and change the map so drastically. Shortening the attack windows, I know why it was done, but changing planets so fast seems to take meaning out of CW. There is no sense of fighting a long, drawn out campaign, instead it is rush to reach the goal fastest, oh I won? Map reset, thanks, gg. The Super Star Trek transporters do not help.

I look at it this way: It's a game. Keep It simple (K.I.S. Method). Lore is nice and all but often impractical for gaming.
As for your last paragraph, I think we may see some changes in the future as planetary defenses are improved, Unit coffers gain functionality, and we start to see specialized Faction content. Case in point, I would like to see Factions restricted to using only the Mechs specific to them while a Black Market would enable Mercs to purchase any Mech at an inflated price (like in the original launch video). That would be interesting, with Mercs having access to more stuff than Loyalists, but having trouble meeting the bills due to the high prices (thus their need for contracts). Loyalist Units would gain access to new Mechs and tech as they take planets that produce them and would have increased amounts of C-bill and LP generation over Merc Units.
I dunno...just a few random thoughts from the top of my head...

I agree that changing ownership of a planet ought to be a longer, difficult process rather than happening multiple times a day.

^ I agree. Planets are changing hands way too fast.
In my opinion, you should have to win multiple attack windows on the same planet in order to claim it.
