Anyone know if it will be Mac compatible? Would be nice since a friend of mine, who is a big BT fan, refuses to get anything other than a Mac, thus making him immune to any ****-kicking I might deliver to him on the online battlefields.

If not, I guess he'll just have to look on in envy as I send him in-game recording and screen shots on a daily basis. :)

Probably not. Probably never.

Remember, one of the conditions for Microsoft licensing out the mechwarrior IP, was that they could never release the game on playstation.

I'm fairly certain microsoft would rule out their other competitors as well.

Edit: Just to clarify, I don't think it shouldn't be on mac. Just saying, its not likely.

Don't have a mac, don't particularly like them due to personal experience.

But I hope there's a mac version, and that it's easy for 3rd parties to port into linux.

More players the better, more market the better.

Edit: Failing a mac version. Bootcamp.

(there's also Wine/crossover/parallels too)

If there's no mac version, people will make it work.

I rarely say a game needs more people, but I have a feeling this one will. This is especially true if the game is targeting fans of the franchise. However, I would rather have a quality game with fewer players than a crappy one with lots (insert Call of Duty here).

It's not the end of the world if you instlal bootcamp. Mac's are pretty powerful computers, but supporting games is terrible on osx.

The FAQ says 'PC' only. Macs are Personal Computers. Nothing so far says Windows only based PC's. Assuming they used UT SDK, which is what they used to make the prototype back in 2009 and I believe the studio has a lot of experience with the UT SDK in general, then Epic announced in the last update to the engine that it now supports OSX / iOS out of the box. I believe this makes it possible to bring the game to Windows and OSX within the same pipeline. However, there is the question of extra costs with customer support for both platforms, and issues surrounding DIrect X, which is not supported by OSX. I fear it might only be 'Windows' only game, and maybe the FAQ should be updated if that is the case. But at least you can use Bootcamp. But I'm alll for OSX support if possible.

If it says PC only, it means Intel x86 CPU architecture. Fortunately Macs use that nowadays.

But still, you don't buy a Mac and expect to play a wide variety of games on it.

Basically "PC" means you'll need windows. If it worked on macs they would say "PC and Mac".

Macs can run Windows, though.

When game publishers say "PC", they always mean a Windows-based PC. If it ran on Mac or Linux, they'd call those out separately.

But yes, UE3 is a very portable game engine, which considerably raises the odds of ports down the track. Maybe not so much for consoles, though, since they have to deal with crippled control systems.

True they do, however they are wrong in doing so, they should state "Windows" if that is what they mean.
A Mac is a PC and many Linux installs are also PCs.
PC="Personal Computer" coined by IBM long ago back when it was a rarity that someone had a computer at home.

"Hi, I'm a Mac"... "I'm a PC" <--- Apple's own marketing campaign.
That was my cheap shot of the day. :)

We are currently focusing on the Windows PC platform.

Folks have gotten crysis to work through wine on linux so I wouldn't be surprised if the same results could be achieved with MWO when it comes out....

HEHE, Ya funny what "Marketing" will make a company do just to look good or different... No matter what Apple says, they were and are PCs by definition.

Yeah, not too sure why MAC fans are worried, they can just install windows on a HDD partition and run Mech. got Mech 4 cranking on Win7 at the mo, lightning quick.

The difference came about because Apple called its computers by model and told developers to pay a fortune for the shiny apple sticker. IBM created an open platform (ISA anyone?) and called it "IBM PC Compatible."

So even though they are both personal computers, everyone now refers to them as Mac or PC. In addition, CryEngine 3 does not have native support for the mac OS.

Furthermore, while you can potential get windows games to work in WINE, the virtual environment has to support hardware acceleration and overall gameplay will not be predictable.

I wont buy Windows or pirate software/operating systems, specially just to play a game.
Dedicated to OpenSource and if that means I can not play a game so be it.
I wont be missed, though I may miss out.

needless to say If developers were to state "Windows" instead of "PC" they would be more correct and understandable by all.
