PGI, thanks for the Urbie.

The vast majority of the community is either very happy to get it, or very happy that you listened to the community and gave us what we wanted.

Anyone unhappy, well we'll count them as inconsolable trolls and move on.

Now that we have our 'useless' Urbie, I want to start the petition for the next 'useless' 'mech to add to our inventory:

The Ostscout.

From Sarna:

Quote

The Ostscout was designed as a pure recon 'Mech. To that end, it was built with a maximum speed of 129.6 kph. The design also utilizes eight jump jets, giving it a jumping capacity of 240 meters and allowing it to outmaneuver almost any BattleMech in existence. The Ostscout also relies on an advanced sensor suite to gather information about the surrounding terrain and the disposition of enemy forces. Most Ostscout pilots will not even attempt to engage enemy 'Mechs, as the advanced sensor system is extremely rare and nearly impossible to replace. Its valuable nature made it a prime target during the Succession Wars, and relatively few survived by the Clan Invasion. Soon thereafter, however, several factions began producing the Ostscout once again.[1]

I think it would be hilarious to have this 'mech fighting side by side with Urbies.

Thank you for your attention.

We'd need some kind of Role Warfare support for this mech, methinks...

Just so you know, then I want the Fire Moth :P
Even capped at 150 kph, don't care.

Hmmm... Maybe a "Bag o'Useless" 'mech pack with those two in it.

What other two chassis are similarly iconic and useless, or iconic due to their uselessness?

"We want Ostscout" - No, we don't.

I like to pretend that none of the Ostmann Industries 'mechs ever existed. It makes me feel a lot better.

Edit: "Most Ostscout pilots will not even attempt to engage enemy 'Mechs, as the advanced sensor system is extremely rare and nearly impossible to replace." - Yeah, that'll work well in an arena shooter without any semblance of role warfare (or R&R for that matter) :/

No Ostscout, we have enough power creep as it is.

Actually, if they EVER did add it (and PGI won't), it would be Locust 1V 2.0 lol.

We'd need sensors first. Which I wouldn't mind.

What...the... Fuuuuu....?!?

And I thought the Ostscout was bad.

OK, if it isn't designed to hold up to enemy fire (only 4 tons armor), why give it ANY weapons. It goes 183 kph... PGive it ECM and no weapons. Let it count on pure evasion.

While we are at it...why do these mechs even exist in BT? I would imagine something like an Aero Fighter or an UAV could do the job MUCH better.

Lastly, what did the poor schmuck of a pilot have to do to get assigned the Fireball or Ostscout? Sleep with the base commander's daughter?

cannonfodder pack, for the poor nations that can't afford Tier one mechs that were created for niches that never existed.

Collisions, that's why the Fireball exists.. I think it was something like (1/5 tonnage)* X=number of hexes moved)... it worked out that a Firemonth charging at an Atlas might actually take out the leg of an Atlas, if it hit.

I support this entirely.
If only I wasn't poor.
