I'm just amazed they actually stole something as terrible looking as the Ost mechs. If you're going to rip off someone's IP, at least rip off cool artwork. I agree about the PH, and I always liked the Stingers and Wasps as well.

They didn't steal anything, they had paid for licenses. Only that US courts couldn't decide if the patent trolling scumbags from HG really held a viable license in the first place.

The Ostscout is unseen, so it's not happening.

IIRC - and it's enough of a convoluted mess that I'm not sure anyone not directly involved knows for certain - FASA licensed some Macross artwork fair and square by (one of) the then-property holder. At about the same time, HG licensed all of Macross from the other property holder, who then took the first property-holder to (Japanese) court over the rights to distribute Macross overseas. The Japanese court decided in the favour of the second property-holder, which meant that the license FASA had acquired was now invalid - even though the company they licensed it from still had the right to license it; just not overseas.

(I'll skip the part here where FASA sued HG, HG sued FASA, and move on with the licensing bit)

FASA replaced all Macross (and Crusher Joe and Dougram) 'mechs with Reseen, as well as introducing new 'mechs (e.g. the Flea) to replace the Unseen.

A few more years down the line, the Crusher Joe and Dougram art was re-licensed which is why we can have our Phoenix 'mechs.

So far though, HG seems to have no intention of licensing the Macross artwork, and it is becoming more and more dubious whether or not they actually have the rights in the first place; but nobody wants to try that, because they're still litigious bastiches and the court costs would be more than any gain that could be had from getting our beloved 'mechs back - sadly.

Strange animation to use but I see this phrase a lot on these forums lately.

I think it is a good idea to constantly bring up all the things that were previewed, promised, or hinted at so that we don't end up with short term memories and keep them on their toes so we do not get strung along again.

I well agree with this, last thing we or pgi want is to get too comfortable and forget the good...and the bad.

Can't think of the word...means basically what I said up there...

No, no. No sarcasm at all. I want an Ostscout filled with every Tag and Probe and Jesus Box and sensor module possible.

CHARGER! 80 ton mech with 1 weapon arm and I believe its 8 Small lasers lol.

Actually the 3025 Charger 1A1 had a sm. laser in each arm, each side torso, and 1 in the head. So without hardpoint inflation thats 5 energy hardpoints spread out across the mech. Biggest problem is that at 80 tons it was over engined, moving as fast as most mediums before XL engines, Endo, or FF were in the game (TT that is). In MWO we could easily mod this into something workable, something like the later variants like the 3050 Charger 3K with a 400 Xl engine, FF armor, DHS, and 4 MPL's and an ALRM20. Charger could actually be somewhat viable.

I just want my Valkyrie! I never understood how that mech was bundled in with the other unseen since the only part of it that even looks like something from Macross was its head (orginal art in TRO 3025 showed it having the same head as the Wasp).

The Wasp, Stinger, Valkyrie, Phoenix Hawk, and the Crusader are all based on the VF-1 Valkyrie from Macross:

The Wasp and Stinger also had LAM versions, which made the connection even more obvious - and of course our Valkyrie even has the same name.

People ask why many of these builds are in the game and there is a funny answer which blindsides them every time. Not every 'Mech was built with direct combat roles in mind and not every 'Mech was designed to fight other 'Mechs.

'Mechs like the Fireball are made to for scouting and fighting light vehicles and infantry. If they encounter even other light 'Mechs which surpass them in fire power they are supposed to run away, because their data collection mission is more important than killing another 'Mech. For a long time if you wanted to take out a Fireball you needed things like Savanah Masters to chase them down and they could go where Savanah Master's could not. If you ignored it you would be taking artillery and indirect LRM fire until your enemy ran out of shells and missiles.

Of course not much of that really applies to MWO so people call a rather useful 'Mech useless based purely on its load out application in MWO.

I agree that it is good to know the past, but to rehash it over and over, when the DEV team has publicly state that "The Flea is dead to me." Then there is no longer any point to bring it up every couple of months.

IS Has had their chance. We need a similar crowd source effort for firemoth with or without MASC.

we have more than enough IS light mechs. Only if the fireball or flea or whatever is attractive enough and viable should we then go for it.

imagine a 170kph mech with 5 medium lasers!

And to complete the grand sixteen, since we can have the very viable ManOWar, we certainly can have the dragonfly.
