We're not using Project Phoenix designs for our Phoenix Pack, we're using the original TRO:3025 designs.

And thank God too, the Project Phoenix redesigns are horribad. There's only one, maybe two I can stomach.

Wasp, Valkyrie, VF-1S. I think there's more than a passing resemblance.

The Project Phoenix Valkyrie is hideously fugly, like all PP designs:

Hey look what the MWO art guys did with the Stalker, if they can make the giant phallus of doom look good they could easily make this one shine :D. Really it just needs that 'mouthguard' thing removed from its lower 'face' and it wouldn't be that bad (at least to my taste).

Now the Phoenix Crusader or Warhammer, yah lets not go there, that just makes me want to cry.

I think the T-bolt, Battlemaster, and the IIC Marauder came out the best from Project Phoenix. I would honestly like to see MWO's art team take a shot at them though, they seem really good at making some ugly designs look real good. The only good thing about the Reseen designs is that at least it would allow those mechs into the game, HG probably won't ever let go of the Macross models, we would have to pry them from their cold dead hands.

So the "Bag O' Useless" 'mech pack to include:

Ostscout
Fire Moth
Fireball
Flea

Is that what I'm hearing?

If they do well with the art on this, I'd be all over it!

I do have a lot of faith in Alex and the art dept for salvaging bad TRO artwork for MWO..... But some of the PP designs just don't represent the originals even remotely... And that's what most people want when we get al glassy eyed about the unseens.

I will again make my case for the Chameleon.

There are a few reasons for this over-lasered hot mess.

1. It is THE training mech of the Inner Sphere. It has trained thousands of pilots across all houses since the star league days. This could be rolled into the desperately needed "New Player Experience" for when steam comes out, possibly as a mech to use instead of champion builds.

2. It is in timeline... well sorta. There was one variant that was oldie but a goodie the TRC-4B with a Large laser, 2 Medium laser, 4 Small lasers and 2 machine guns. The only thing missing from this one is a missile hardpoint. The CLN-4V is a star league variant that lowers the armor and gives it another Small laser.

3. It is cool looking and could look cooler. I personally think it is one of the more interesting looking mechs from the old artwork and would love to see it redone to a modern look but still keeping all that star league rounded goodness.

4. It is a medium so why not?

LOL, they didn't make it 'look good', we've just come to appreciate it's current look as physical manifestation of manly death incarnate.

I suggested over a year ago that the trainer mechs (I believe their were at least three trainers: light, medium, and heavy) like the chameleon be given to all new players rather than rely on trial mechs. Trial mechs are still a good idea, but more for playing with the feel of other mechs and not a requirement for newbies. They don't even need 3 variants to force players into purchasing real mechs as replacements (since the best they could do is basics).

Or from a money standpoint... Make the 1 or 2 versions that exist free and a hero version of each so they could complete a set of three and so get elites and even mastery.

Man I've been saying trainer mechs since Closed Beta... but yeah here we are lol.

I'm fine with them not even being able to be fully mastered, maybe just elited. Trainers are supposed to be for a taste of the game not the full meal at once.
