Whaa? why is gauss proteced by case, shouldn't that be a moot point as it is impossible for a solid slug to explode? Am i missing somthing?
Since when do non-explosive slugs contain explosives?
I am super confused right now.
Ps, its been a while since i have been here, can some one tell me what is going on?

Gauss RIFLES can now be CASE protected, again. They can explode, not the ammo.

CASE isn't exactly just a "case" that holds ammunition. It's more of an interior body design which will forcefully redirect internal explosions outward specifically -- and for some weird inexplicable reason -- toward the Rear.
Any explosion that occurs within the section of the 'Mech designed with CASE in mind will be redirected if possible. Ammo, or weapon. PPCs if we go by the post-third (or was it fourth) edition rules would also explode (standard ones only, and only if fired with the field inhibitor deactivate to remove their canon 'charge up').
Gauss Rifles explode while their ammunition is inert. Of course, it is only supposed to explode if hit when charged. (It should be mentioned, it takes between 5 and 10 seconds in BT to power up or "charge" a Gauss Rifle, and about the same amount of time to remove power from it [deactivate it], so it wouldn't just be "hold mouse for 0.75 seconds and that's the only time I'm vulnerable).

It makes sense to use CASE to prevent its explosion. Especially by native tabletop designs (since if a mech has 32 structure in a side torso in MWO, it'd only be 16 structure in tabletop, all armor and structure values were doubled from tabletop to MWO due to the mass Pinpoint Front-Loaded-Damage across all weapons in MWO.)
Also if the design you're looking at has a stock XL engine, the CASE probably has more to do with protecting the engine. (For example the VLAR XL 300 engine in the Atlas K is only 6,500,000 in MWO, but in tabletop the change in a prestine off-the-factory mech's price is 12 million more to have an XL 300 for a 100 ton mech compared to having a standard engine of the same rating. Without CASE, if the engine takes 3 critical hits the engine cannot be salvaged, and if it dies by CT, you lose the engine anyway).
