Hey pilots,I'm new to this game...
Recently I found it difficult to understand the suggested build for IS mechs on the MWO Guide...
It said the HBK-4SP is suggested to have 3xML, 2xSRM-6+A, 14DHS, STD260; or 5xSmall Laser...
Can anyone tell me what's this "14DHS" mean?Does it mean to put 14 DHS on the mech or is it the number of DHS in total(including the internel heat sinks)?

DHS is short for Double Heatsink. It is an upgrade you want to put on virtually all mechs (if they do not come with those stock) to get decent cooling. 14 is just the number in that build. Engines rated at 250 or above come with 10 internal heatsinks, so 14DHS means there are 4 heatsinks outside of the engine.

If you want it to run cool while remaining usefu, a good idea would be using the STD250 engine, like this. Personally, I run the mech very hot to make it speedy, and to have enough ammo, like this. You can also try heavy energy setups, like a full lazor Hunchie.

To expand on Modo44's answer, those 14 DHS mentioned include the ones that are internal. This is done because engines with a rating below 250 cannot have the full 10 internal heatsinks, necessitating them to put the additional required ones outside of the engine. Please also note that only DHS that come integral with the engine (so not those extra ones you can put in the engine for engines rated 275 or higher) are considered 'true DHS' that give x2 cooling. All other DHS only give 1.4 the cooling of a SHS.

Thx for the answer,I made a personal modified version like [smurfy]http://mwo.smurfy-ne...28949c338037afb[/smurfy] this one...I don't know if this is the right way to build the 4SP,or did I misunderstand the meaning of 14DHS? It seems this one has only 12DHS...

So it means I should make it have 14 "true" heat sinks?Thx for the help:P
And I made a modified version of 4SP like [smurfy]http://mwo.smurfy-ne...28949c338037afb[/smurfy] this one,is it suitable for the battlefield?

It only has 12 because you have two tons left. Try removing Ferro armor to get slots back. You generally put ammo in locations that do not get shot, or put it all in one location with C.A.S.E. Your build has C.A.S.E. only for one locations -- the others can still hurt it. You can relatively safely skip it with just one ton of ammo, since torso ammo gets spent first.

If you are set on the 260 engine, try this. It provides very good cooling, and it lets you use the entire left side of the mech as a shield (look far away from enemies when not firing to make them hit your left side). Putting heatsinks in the same locations as ammo makes the ammo less likely to explode in case of critical hits. This is called crit padding, and is crucial for survivability. You do the same with your main weapons if possible.

Thanks,I'll try to make my 4SP better to use lol...It's said to be one of the most newbie-friendly mech and I'm sure I can deal with this big boy lol
