And I thought it interesting there, that with this rolling history Battletech’s presented us over the years, how different phases of the Battletech saga have unfolded alongside other events in the real world to overlap our day to day experiences. For example, when I was 15, Melissa Steiner and Hanse Davion launched the Fourth Succession War. The Clans invaded when I was 16. I was in college for the Refusal War, I was dating a smokin’ redhead I taught to play during the FedCom Civil War (she chose Steiner… >_<) That sort of thing. I look back on any given era of my past and somewhere along the line, I compare what Battletech felt like and what was happening in its history at the same time.
It occurred to me that with a history as detailed and deep as Battletech’s, we lot should commemorate those nigh-30 years of storytelling effort with an unofficial holiday of sorts. Behold: Battletech Armed Forces Day. A day to celebrate all the cool things about Battletech over the years and the grand adventures we’ve had with it.
How would one celebrate such a thing? After all, many players are still searching for other people who play the game, even during this vibrant rebirth of B.T. Fair enough. It’s simple: Go onto a forum and relay a great old story about Battletech. Something you did that you were proud of, something about old friends you used to enjoy playing the game with, some story moment that made you gasp, that sort of thing. The only rule is, for the day of BAFD, we say only positive things about the game. (There are people who can use the other 364 days about it to complain about any given thing – more than enough time).
If you’re part of a BT group, get together with your group – at home or at a game store or whatever – and have yourselves a pizza party. Recruit new players, challenge old ones, show off paint jobs, tell stories about the glory days. Raise a glass to the Battletech legacy that day and salute players past and present, and those who are no longer with us.
What day should this be? Well, we could pick any given in-universe holiday, but that caters to one bias or another. So, how about the day Battletech was first introduced to us. Does anyone know the exact date Battledroids was released? That should be the day.

Whaddya think, guys? After 30 years of adventure, history, edge of your seat warfare and flat out ‘Mech adventure, shouldn’t we have our own unofficial holiday? Call me crazy, but that’s my vote.
