Stalker 4N is fine. It is a good mech, but not broken like the Thud 9S erPPC monster.

...but I got my ass handed to me in one match!

warhawks the same. some use 4 er ppc but why? it ran crazy hot in lore, in novels, in TT why should it be else here?
2 er ppc + 2 large laser or 2 large pulse laser should work more efficient over time than 4 er ppc D:
imho, putting ghost heat to 3 instead of 2 is not a good thing either.

Yup, but in TT and Lore, the cERPPC did 15 damage to one location, so that was offset some what, made them hit as as hard as an AWS-8Q only fireing 2 cERPPC's, when the 8Q had to fire all three. But unlike the Awesome, the Warhawk could fire both of those cERPPC's and not be running positive heat the next round....

I agree they're closer to mortal than they used to be... though they're still the single most versatile and toughest Heavy in the game.

Personally I find Storm Crows more difficult to put down - or be put down in - these days.

Incidentally, I play Clan and IS Mechs. So I have a certain dispassionate perspective on the relative capabilities of Mechs.

-shrug- never really had a problem putting down Timber Wolves, but like you, I have and run both (but I enjoy my IS mechs more)... the mechs I have issues with mostly are Firestarters....

I normally play IS, but just finished getting rank 2 in all factions for the easy peezy free mechbays. I was finishing up Smoke Jaguar this weekend and I had a pretty good laugh when this scrolled through chat:

"IS can't win without Stalkers and TBolts, they are in every match!!!"

Sure, ok guys. IS will stop taking Stalkers and TBolts when Clans stop taking TBRs and SCRs. Done! See what I did there?

Lets say the 4N gets adjusted, whichever then becomes 'best mech' will replace it and you little babies will be crying over that chassis next.

Still can't see why people insist on fighting a stalker within 600m mid range when you can outrange it or out brawl it. It's not like it's the stalker that decides on the engagement range. :P

Where the fun of staying outside the enemy's range? When I dance with someone its to see who makes the biggest mistake and falls first. Some of us like to dance.

If you ask that question that means either you never played a Hexa PPC Stalker or never encoutered one. PPc got 90m minimum range... Get in his face, no more Problem he cant shoot you at all. Also the pure awesomeness of that stalker was to go in alpha strike so yeah when it did it took a very long time to cool off which brings me back to the '' get in his face ( while its cooling)''. Dont forget that Quirks werent around when the 6 PPC was trolling.

When HexStalking always use the buddy system.

Warhawk Prime with left and right arms in separate chains, fired consecutively can be highly effective and personally I find it quite a fun mech. Full disclosure I also enjoy the stock Adder Prime.

I have a ping of 210 on a good day. So I can't tell whether Firestarters' (and Spiders') apparent invulnerability is due to my generally poor hitreg on fast-moving targets, or that I didn't guess the correct kilometerage to lead the target, or that the Firestarter and Spider hitboxes are just plain wonky.

It's probably all three :D

yes :)

Firestarts have buggy hit boxes, lag shields, and a lot of pin-point damage for their tonnage.... basically a perfect storm going on.

Seriously unless everyone stops Timberwolving, any calls for people to stop playing other mechs because they're too good is just plain wrong.

I agree that the stalker isnt as OP as the clan timber god and scrow, and its ******* bulsht that the same people abusing Timbergods are whining about the inferior stalker 4N. Maybe this is a good time to nerf the scrow timber AND IS STALKER ALONG with the firestarter. Then its fair, IS and Clans both lose 2 OP mechs!

My favorite is reading this thread and watching the same pack of rationally-challenged hypocrites go on and on about how you can't approach the Stalker with it's super lasers...

When those same shills can be found in other threads saying how the IS "let's clans win" by not forcing closer engagement ranges in the slower or more fragile, shorter ranged IS mechs.

Really, I have to say this is probably the most amazing group-level of cognitive dissonance I have seen for any game I have ever played.

Bravo.

No matter what mechs get nerfed or buffed via quirks or weapon specs changing, someone will always be angry, and some mech will always take priority on the meta. If you look at the overwhelming amount of Crows and Wolves on the CW fronts, I think it's fair to say that balancing is an ongoing project and at the very least there are casualties on both sides of the front.

I'm talking about sustained laser PEW, there isn't a mech in the game, not Timber, not Crow, not Warhawk that matches it.

....and yes I have all of the above.

Being able to spam 3 ERPPC's on something that was 15 tons lighter, and only ever carried one in TT, than the mech that was build to spam them and boat them in TT just isn't right.

I don't give a crap about that. The mech was fine, now we're back to erppcs being useless. Why are they even in the game? No mech can use them effectively. Ever play MWLL? If you haven't, you should.

What does Jeet Kune Do have to do with anything? Curious from someone who actually has training in JKD.

Grow up and adapt. This is nothing.

PPC are not useless, just a bit non uniform from mech to mech.

JKD in mechwarrior one could assume it to mean: Know yourself, know your mech, know your opponent, know your opponents mech.. Use this knowledge to accentuate your strengths against their weakness.

Jeet Jixie Do (Way of the intercepting Machine)?
