My top 2 combat tips:
#1 Stick together
#2 Focus fire
Any tips related to loadouts, moving, overheating or any personal skill are below these two.

Nice. I'd say almost sticky material.

Don't overheat. There you go c:
There's plenty more to say about heat management.
1. Understanding the basics of heat. What generates it. How to get rid of it.
2. Understanding how heat works on different maps (Alpine Peaks vs Terra Therma for instance)
3. Managing heat through mech set up or through fire dicipline
4. When to use override. When to use a 'tactical' overheat
5. Understanding how to 'ride' the shutdown line.

If by the top 3 you mean the 3 most important, I must respectfully disagree with them. #1 should be lock targets. #2 should be stick with team. #3 should then be either use cover or focus fire.
Locking targets is the most important thing because it tells you where the enemy is wounded, what his loadout is and potentially whether he's running an XL, has ammo in the legs, and/or is a hot build. Also, by locking the target your friends can also see this info as well as knowing where an enemy is.
You can't focus fire unless you stick with your team. Do this even if your team chooses a route that you wouldn't normally take.
Your tips are important, just not what I would say are the top 3.

You can use Smurfy to calculate the sustained damage-per-second for various combinations of weapons. For energy-heavy mechs the DPS by not using some weapons is higher, so you need to not fire these weapons when you are in a difficult situation bordering on heat shut-down. I can't remember how often I got a shut down alphaing a mech on the brink of death... that survived...
Unless you think a shut down is warranted or deliberate, every shut down is the universe telling you your heat management is not good.
