Ok, out of curiosity I checked what mechs there were in the 3025 TRO book that are not yet in MWO. However, I realize that other mechs have been retroactively included in the time frame, so I also put in the 3039 mechs, and the rest of the 2750 mechs, allthough I put those in italics.

==================================

Lights:
Thorn
Flea
Hornet
Mongoose
Falcon
Javelin
Wolfhound

Mediums:
Hermes
Hussar
Sentinel
Wyvern
Crab
Assassin
Clint
Hermes-II
Vulcan
Hatchetman
Wolf Trap
Whitworth
Dervish
Hoplite

Heavies:
Champion
Lancelot
Bombardier
Exterminator
Guillotine
Caesar
Black Knight
Flashman

Assaults:
Thug
Charger/Hatamoto-Chi
Katana/Crockett
Cyclops
Daboku/Mauler
Annihilator
Imp

==================================

I am surprised there are that many left. I was hoping to see some more mechs from the 3055 book, but perhaps not?

(edited to include the Wolf-Trap, Hoplite, Exterminator, Caesar, combined Charger and Hatamoto-chi as the same mech, Katana (aka the Crockett), Annihilator, and Imp. Most of those come from TRO 3050).

That's a heck of a lot of mechs. I didn't realize there were so many timeline appropriate mechs left, though I suppose the original restriction requiring 3 variants locked a heck of a lot of mechs out. I am very glad that restriction was scrapped. It was stupid from the get go =)

Cyclops and Black Knight are pretty much confirmed as eventually coming (not that either has anything particularly unique to offer). Mauler had art work done ages ago, but unsure if there's any timeline on getting it out.

Hatchetman is a no-go, unless we get melee in the game right now. Russ (PGI president) has said he'd love to get collisions and knockdowns and melee in, but there are a LOT of other priorities and he doubts it will come any time in the foreseeable future.

Charger would be interesting, as would the Hatamoto series.

The mechs I'd most like to see are the Javelin (jumping 30-ton SRM boat sounds interesting), and the Assassin (I'd totally make that my first 40-ton mech).

Wait when did the 3 variant requirement get trashed?

It did and it didn't. The ENF-5P is not a canon mech, it is a PGI original, as is the upcoming Shadowcat P.

If I were to pick a 4-pack out of that list I think I would go with this.

1. Mongoose. Energy boat lights do the best, and this has 4 energy weapons, including the head and CT so you could theoretically run a standard engine variant and zombie with it, while also being as fast as a locust.

2. Assassin. We need another fast 40 ton mech to offset the Cicada in it's niche as the "largest light mech" in the game. Lets face it, the top end of the medium scale got filled quickly with the holy trinity of Unseen 55 tonners. The next medium should be a 40 ton mech.

3. Exterminator. We have enough 70 and 75 ton mechs. Another 65 ton heavy is good, and the damn thing is all sexy looking.

4. Mauler. It just works for me. Quad Ballistic could with AC-2's could be used to make dual AC-20 and not be the King Crab.

Only Orion for 75 tons, only cataphract and grasshopper 70 tons, 65 we have 3, thunderbolt + jager + catapult.

Same reason why Cyclops might be in. 90 tons.

They will need to double up on the mediums in the next packs to balance them out.

From these mechs, i'd probably want the Vulcan the most

Also since we only have A SINGLE 40 ton mech (cicada), i think Vulcan would be a great addition to provide a slightly different take on the 40 ton mech (not as fast, but with jumpjets), basically a 40 tonner that's closer to the rest of the mediums than the lights.

But i fear that his usual very lanky and thin self would be made into a stocky american football player like the centurion.

Blazers would be nice for mechs that are low on energy hardpoints, but the long tom and arrow IV would require crit splitting, which I doubt PGI is going to implement.
Since Russ has announced that they're open to adding 3052 mechs which would be experimental designs at this point in the timeline, there's no excuse not to add more experimental tech such as blazers.

Thanks for the list

For the next pack, I would personally like

Javelin - it is primarily missiles with JJ, but has a 7E version for variety. I'm not sure we want another laser based 35 ton (wolfhound)

Assassin - it's emphasis on missiles and JJ is complimentary to the energy and ballistic heavy cicada

Exterminator - 390xl on a 65 ton offers variety of play even if that weight class is saturated. By exchanging canon null signature and stealth armour for in game ECM, we have a heavy sniper in the works.

Cyclops. We need another option at the 90s category. Even if it's more like a mini atlas. (The Mauler is beautiful, but is bound to suffer Awesomititis with that even larger torso if the amended drawings do not differ so much that it loses charater.)

pS can anyone share what's the deal with the black knight? It's all laser play is not going to add anything to the game, what with the grasshopper and awesome occupying adjacent weight classes. It has no JJ. The original drawings are not the best, other than starring one of the MW games, I don't consider it iconic, no where near Zeus or TBR or anything.

However, if we move one year ahead to 3053, I would welcome the penetrator with open arms. I like the load out of the blander snatch, but it just has no real character.

Oh but just for the love of the Urbie and the rotund shape would I then go for flashman and the IMP to complete the "garbage squad".

No you pretty much called it.

Penetrator can pretty much be recreated on a Grasshopper. The Bandersnatch, even without hardpoint inflation, would have some seriously good hardpoints. A ballistic and 2 energy in each arm, 2 energy CT, and 3 missile spread between the head and side torsos.

Flashman would just be interesting because it's fast laservomit on an Inner Sphere heavy. The Imp would just be a heavier version of the 6T or 9S Zeus.
