Guys,

I have the Panther and Enforcer and love these two mechs!

This means that I can upgrade my Resistance pack to the Grasshopper for only $20.00...

I have heard mixed reviews of this mech.

Is it a deadly shark or a damp squib? Will I be getting a fun effective mech for my money or is it one to pass on?

Thanks

totally depends on playstyle, hence the mixed reviews.
It's way overly tall, but manages to have solid hitboxes and toughness, despite, along with decent mobility.
But you have to love laservomit to succeed. I find it boring running around with 7 mpl, so it doesn't suit me. Other people love that type of build, and so despite it's height, it works.

I run mixed vomit loadouts.

1lpl, 4 mpl, 1 lrm5
1ll, 6ml, lrm5
3ll, 3ml

Single vomit makes knowing engagement range easier to determine, but I prefer mixed range loadouts. Its all still vomit though.

If you want a laser-centric, high-mobility heavy Inner Sphere mech you have 2 options: Quickdraw and Grasshopper. The 'hopper has decent hitboxes, and handles an XL pretty well. The Quickdraw... Well, the Quickdraw is the Quickdraw. Being at the low-end of the heavy weight class, and with hitboxes better suited to standard engines despite the high engine cap... Well, there's a reason you don't see many Quickdraws out there, and it has nothing to do with availability.

2LPL 6ML

2LPL 5ML

6MPL 1SRM4

Those are my three builds

all net around 300-450 damage consistently

these mechs are very mediocre

the grasshopper does one thing well... hiding till the right moment and laser vomiting a slow\stationary target

if you want an assassin mech with the least stealthy profile in the game, the hopper might be for you

2x LPL 5x MPL

8x MPL

2x ERLL 4x ML 2x AMS

Slap in an XL and some JJs, take some care with positioning and spread damage as best you can, and the things last surprisingly long while pumping out a lot of damage, though heat is generally an issue.

The Grasshover might be ok if they ever sort out jumpjets.

Its solid, not great. Wasn't really abusive to grind to eliete

I have one that is a ghetto Timber 2 LPL 4 mpl XL a couple JJs and whatever I could jam in after that.
The 7MPL jump thunderbolt wannabe
Screw around x2 PPC 5 mlas, standard engine

they all work they just aren't amazing.

This made me laugh because it's true.

The 5H is a really good laser vom chassis, I'm running it like this. Great hill poking and a beastly 53 dmg alpha.

The other variants are fun but significantly weaker.

sold them, bought thunderbolts with them.. still have the resistance variants because you can't sell those... in my opinion everything in the resistance pack is bad.. the Zues was the closest to ok.. but not worth any real money.. mostly got the pack for the c-bill bonus mechs. 4/10, wouldn't recommend.

You bought mechs with real money, and then sold them off in order to buy mechs that are available for cbills?

Hey! The Enforcer is awesome!

But yeah, the Grasshover is pretty disappointing. It's basically an inferior Thunderbolt with hoverjets of dubious use (the thing is so huge, they barely give you any lift). If it actually had decent quirks, that could theoretically change (because its current quirks are terrible) but I am not holding my breath; PGI have become exceptionally gun-shy with quirks after all the Clanner bitching over the Thunderbolts and Stalker-4N.

So yeah, save your money for the time being or just just buy mechbays for Thunderbolts.

Grasshopper is an incredible mech. It's one of my favorite IS heavies, right up there with Orions and Cataphracts. Slap in an XL and you're good to go!

Obsolete information,QKD can roll damage much better than a GHR,even with an XL engine. Also the quirks are better than Grasshoppers.

Yeah, the 5K specifically is amazing now. I leveled them about a month ago and more than once playing GHRs have thought "man, I wish I was in a QKD right now." IV-4 still sucks, though.

It's like a heavier, less effective Thunderbolt. Both get some (usually) ignored missile slots. TB, however, gets better quirks.

I don't recall hearing about a hitbox revision on the QKD. If one came and I missed it, or if it got some superb quirks (can't recall off the top of my head), than, yeah, I'm out of date. And the reason you don't see many QKDs would be that since newer players don't see them being used (because veteran players are working off of older info) they don't bother with them.

Edit: Just double checked the quirks, and the QKD's beam duration and missile velocity quirks might be enough to help it compete with the Grasshopper's better payload and higher armor caps.
